That weekend I'm at Loan's house. I say house, but it's more like a modern mansion. He takes me to his large room where the pizzas are already waiting. He's put the new Netflix movie 'Veronica' on and we settle down to watch. He eventually puts an arm around me and I rest my head on his shoulder. It feels nice. Loan is warm and comfortable, I don't feel like I'm pressured into doing anything right now.
We finish up the movie and head toward his kitchen with the empty pizza boxes.
"That was a weird movie," I commented.
"Yeah, but I enjoyed watching it," he smiled, "I enjoy spending time with you, Ophelia."
I don't know what to say, but I feel myself blushing, so I look away.
He laughs, "You look cute with your cheeks all red like that."
He steps closer to me to say something else, but before he can speak his backdoor leading into the kitchen bursts open and a tall blonde haired girl with generous curves storms in with a look of fury.
"What the hell Loan?!" she screams, "I leave you for a day and you're already trying to get into the pants of some scrawny little whore?!
Loan sighs exasperated, "Sam, you and I are done. We're not dating anymore. We haven't been for a while. I can see who I please when I please, and even if we were dating still, I can hang out with other people."
Samantha sneers, "Yeah right Loan, you can't resist me. You always come crawling back because you know there's no one better than me. I bet she won't even put out."
I look away feeling awkward and she laughs, "Ha! See? Even if she did, I doubt she'd be half as good, so why don't you stop playing around and get back to reality?"
"I am in reality, Sam!" Loan shouts, genuinely angry, "And the reality is that any relationship we have is toxic and no good for either of us! I want something better for myself that doesn't revolve around sex. It's been good Sam, really it has, but it's not what I want."
I left the house quietly to let them hash things out in peace. I was walking down the street when I felt a presence behind me. I turned and saw an older woman dressed in old-fashioned clothing stood behind me.
I looked around to make sure no-one could see me talking to a ghost before saying to her, "Who are you?"
"My name is Rosa Osborne," she replied, "I'm Sarah's ancestor."
I nodded and said, "I can see the resemblance. What can I do for you, Rosa?"
"I'm here to pass a warning to you," she explained, "an ancient threat that burned myself and my sisters at the stake as witches is looming over Mystery Spell. That and you need to find your family heirlooms and remember who you are! Save my coven and those you love, Ophelia! Awaken your true powers!"
"Wait! Sarah's a witch? My true powers? What are you talking about?" I asked, eager to know the answers.
"Everything lies in your past and your future," she replied cryptically, "you're not just any medium Ophelia, you too are a witch. Save my coven from the looming threat! The shadow of the Bartholy family is in the distance, but be prepared for his arrival! Gather the witches!"
I can't ask her any more questions because she's gone. It's starting to rain and I duck under cover and pull out the old book I'd taken out of the library. I looked at the old map inside of it and saw the other locations that were glowing. The nearest one was in an abandoned building that wasn't too far away. I'd been making notes and translations of all the spells and potions and keeping them locked in a box stashed inside of my mattress. I made my way to the building in question and used my energy to seek out what I needed. The building was an old-fashioned house that was long abandoned. I could feel the residual energy here. It was unsettling so I was on my guard.
