Classes started today. I was looking forward to it. I'd be in English Lit and Myths and Legends with Sarah and Peter, and Spanish class with Loan. I changed into my uniform, got Lorie ready and off to school and I grabbed my bag and met Sarah outside the school building.

English lit first thing on a Monday morning is NOT something I recommend for the faint of heart, but my fashion design class immediately afterward more than made up for it, I had Spanish with Loan and he spent the entire class translating cheesy pick-up lines into Spanish, which got him into significant trouble and he was removed from the lesson. He winked at me as he walked out the door and I tried not to laugh.

I had lunch with Sarah and we made our way towards Myths and Legends together. We sat in the middle of the classroom together, I saw Peter sitting in the front row with some blonde haired girl with black streaks in her hair that made her look like a skunk. I don't know why but this bothered me a little. I still can't get a decent sentence out of him despite living with him and yet this bitch is able to sit next to him? What kind of sorcery is this and where can I get some?

Professor Sebastian Jones entered the auditorium and every girl in the class started giggling like they were 15 again. He was younger than I expected, with a muscular figure and wild, shoulder-length black hair and amber eyes.  He scanned the room and his eyes seemed to settle on me, which sent an electric shock through my body and caused me to shiver.

"Good afternoon class, I'm Professor Sebastian Jones and I'll be your teacher for this course," he said in a deep husky tone, "I'd like to start by saying I will be offering a research position to students I believe to hold potential and talent in this field after your mid-term examinations, if you are interested in the opportunity, see me after class for further details. However, I will decide who gets the opportunity based on academic performance, research skills, and attendance."

After this announcement, he turned to the chalkboard and began outlining the course and its purpose. I scribbled down my notes and plan to tackle the coursework in between designing clothes. I felt eyes on me as he continued his explanation of how much reading we'd need to do as well as the reading list. I glanced up and he was looking in my direction again. Our eyes met and electricity surged through me. What is going on with me?

The class finished and I told Sarah I needed to get some air by myself and I'd talk to her later. She nodded and I dashed out of the class, feeling sick. I arrived in a secluded area of the parking lot next to some woods. I got out my sketch pad and began to draw, as I often did when I was anxious. I was starting to calm down when I heard the laughter of a child next to me. I looked up and there was a group of black-eyed children in very old attire grinning at me with razor-sharp teeth. Demons. I stood up on shaky legs and surrounded myself in white light to protect myself from them. But it was already too late, they had latched onto my soul and were draining me of my energy. I sent forth a wave of destructive energy and they vanished, along with part of a wall near the school and I knocked over a tree in the forest.

I stumbled back and collided with someone. I turned around in a panic; Professor Jones. He was looking at me with a mixture of concern and surprise.

"Miss Bardot?" was all I heard before the world went black.

I woke up in a hospital bed with Professor Jones standing at the foot of the bed, talking to a doctor. The doctor left and he sat down in a chair next to me.

"You're awake," he smiled, "I was worried you weren't going to wake up for a few days, sending demons back to the underworld is no easy task."

I froze for a moment before replying, "Are you sure you don't need a doctor, Professor? I was sketching before I passed out."

He chuckled, "I know what I saw and I know what you are, Ophelia. Your secret is safe with me. I thought I sensed Mediumship emanating from you. You're very powerful."

I look away in scorn, "I don't know what you're talking about Professor."

He sighs heavily, "Anyway, the hospital says you're anemic. It's a side effect of being a medium, especially when you use your powers like that. But they also say you're severely underweight. They'll be contacting your family."

"My family is dead," I say flatly.

"Oh...I'm...I'm sorry, they'll contact whoever you're staying with," he replies.

I say nothing. He takes my hand in a comforting manner and I stiffen. His hand is warm and I feel lightning surge through my body.

"I want you to know you can trust me, Ophelia, I'm not here to hurt you," he said, looking at me intensely, "I want to help you."

"I don't need any help," I say, looking him in the eye which seems to unnerve him.

He let's go of my hand when Nicolae and Peter walk into the room, followed closely by Sarah and Loan. He excuses himself and they begin making a fuss over me.

"What are you doing here, Loan?" Sarah snaps suddenly.

"She and I are dating, aren't I allowed to show concern for her?" he replies, effectively causing her to go silent.

Peter looks tense and Nicolae cuts the discussion short by saying, "The doctor told us what happened, they need to monitor you overnight and we need to make sure you eat to get your weight back up and manage your anemia."

They talk to me a while longer before I'm left alone with Loan.

"Shit Ophelia, you gave us all a real scare there," he says with a sad look, "How about this weekend you and I have a movie night with some pizza?"

I smile weakly, "I'd like that."

He grins and kisses me on the forehead before turning to leave. I see Professor Jones stood outside, hidden behind the door glaring at Loan. What is going on with everyone lately?
