Naruto and Sasuke's trail was leading steadily through the forest, away from the Leaf Village and towards the Rain Country. At first I had been following behind Naruto and Sasuke, but after a while I had noticed that they had left a very clear trail on the forest ground bellow us (Psh. Amateurs). Now I was racing ahead of both of them. Although I hadn't shown it earlier, I was impatient to find Kakashi.

"You know, after we rescue Kakashi, you're going to have to cover that trail," I called over my shoulder to the two Genin behind me.
"We will..." Naruto gasped weakly. I looked behind me with a raised eyebrow to find both Naruto and Sasuke having trouble keeping up with me. Naruto was openly wheezing, but his face was determined and the way his eyes kept flicking over to Sasuke told me that he wasn't about to ask me to slow down before Sasuke did. Sasuke was hiding the fact that he was out of breath a lot better- only a bead of sweat on his forehead and the fact that his nostrils were flaring from the effort of not breathing through his mouth told me that he was as breathless as Naruto. I sighed. Guess I'll have to slow down.

"Onee-san*?" I heard Naruto's voice behind me, after he had caught his breath. Onee-san? I thought. That's a first.
"What is it kid?" I asked him, slowing down to run beside him.
"Why do you and Pakkun not get along?"
I was surprised at the question, but smiled ruefully. "Hmm well actually I've never really liked dogs..."

"Sayuri!" Kakashi called into the hut, startling me out of my sleep. I grumbled as I opened my eyes to the bright morning light. "Aren't you awake yet?"
I grumbled again and pulled the covers over my face. Kakashi chuckled and stepped up to my bed. "I'm afraid you just gave yourself away," He said, before throwing my blankets back to reveal my face. The movements made a cloud of dust rise from the old sofa I had been sleeping on and I sneezed. "Oh sorry," Kakashi said. "I'll have to help you clean that sofa today."
I rubbed my nose and nodded. Kakashi had brought the sofa to me the day before. Judging by the amount of dust it contained, it's previous owners had probably stored it in a shed for a while. I could also deduce that the previous owners owned several cats- the sofa was covered in cat hair.

"But before we do any cleaning," Kakashi continued. "I'm going to teach you a new jutsu! This one is called the Summoning Jutsu."
I was unimpressed. "What can it do?" I asked.
"If you come outside, I'll show you," Kakashi teased. "But I can promise you that it's a really cool technique. I thought, since you're nine now, you deserved to learn something awesome."
That made me sit up. "You're gonna show me now?" I asked eagerly.
"Well if you finally get up and ready, I might."

I flung my blanket off me and leaped out of bed to run to my closet, tearing out the only clothes I had- the green jumper-dress and a red scarf. I was about to slip out of the baggy shirt that Kakashi had lent me as a pyjama while mine was being cleaned when I was interrupted by Kakashi.

"Wait wait wait!" Kakashi called, hands outstretched defensively. "I'm not even outside yet."
I looked at him with my head tilted. "Yeah, I can see that...?"
"Well, you can't just change in front of people!" He explained, exasperated.
"My mom and dad never minded," I mumbled, drooping slightly at the thought of them. Normally I tried not to think about my "old life".
"Well, it's not like there's anything wrong with changing in front of your blood family, but... I'm not your blood family, and generally people of opposite genders don't change in front of each other," Kakashi explained awkwardly, while slowly backing out of the room. "I mean, you're still a kid, but I dunno. It'll make people uncomfortable." I watched him turn and leave the room with a curious expression on my face. Grown ups were so strange.
