Alec

The days dragged on, each person had a different point of view.

A couple think it's an honor, but most lashed out, calling me a monster.

   They're right.

One man the in sector 3 yesterday told me, "if I were you I'd feel guilty. You get fame out of being healthy- but everything will crumble when you, or someone else spreads the sickness to the government."

I don't even care about myself anymore. I'd die for any of those people, even if they hate me.

If killing me meant saving the world- anyone would do it, without thinking. My mom and siblings included.

But- tomorrow is time for the final sector. Sector 5: Healthy.

Today's the day. A select few get to meet the great Alexander Lightwood.

Apparently, he personally speaks with people.

I'm not sure how it's going to work with us because we have roommates, but of course he's going to find a way.

He's Alexander Lightwood.

We dont have many responsibilities besides cleaning up after meals, washing our clothes, and looking after one another.

The workers specifically told us to report anyone with symptoms.

They also do vital checks every other day.

Madzie gets along with some of the other kids.

Not to long ago, I was watching her play with another little girl, when the person I assumed was her father sat on the bench next to me.

"I'm her dad," he points to the girl.

"Seems like they get along," I smile.

"Is she yours?"

"Well, her parents died, then my friend took her in. Then she got in some trouble, passed her down to another one of my friends," I notice how much the poor girl's been through, "then the plague took her, so, yeah I guess so."

"That must be so painful," he sighs, "for you and her."

I nod, "so, where are you from?"

"Upstate New York," he says, "it's quiet up there, compared to the city."

"I'm from the city, Brooklyn, specifically."

"Nice to meet you," We shake hands, "I'm Ryan O'Donnell."

"Magnus Bane," I smile and turn my gaze back to Madzie.

The next morning I wake up at my desk, my head resting on a stack of hard papers.

I put my hand on my forehead. It was aching, kind of like when you have a hangover.

I blink at the sudden light, then check the clock.

5:40

I neaten it up and groggily walk back to my room.

After I walk though the door, I hear it click behind me.

I put on some new clothes- just a grey T-shirt, jeans, and my jacket.

I flop back on my bed- desperate to get a little more sleep before Jace or Izzy have to wake me up.

I set an alarm on my phone (which barely works) for 6:30.

——————

"Wake up, Alec!" Izzy shakes my shoulders.

"What time is it-" I rub my eyes.

"It's seven. I heard your alarm blaring for a half hour," she complains.

"I must've slept through it- sorry Iz."

"Go down and get something to eat," she tells me.

I haven't eaten in a while, so I go down to the cafe and order some fries- because, why not?

I sit down at a table in the corner and see that Jace had texted me, "30 minutes till we need to go to sector 5 and meet with the first people"

I reply, "okay," then get my food from the counter.

I bring it back to my seat just as Clary and Jace sit across from me.

"Hello, cliched lovebirds," I sigh and stare down at my food.

"You should really get a girlfriend, bro," Jace says and steals a few of my fries.

"Here, take em," I say and push them over to them.

"You haven't eaten in like two days, are you sure?"

"I'm just not hungry," I say and yawn.

Right before I leave I take my spare keycard and put it under my doormat. I do it just in case I loose my card or something.

After they finish up, we walk down to the door together.

Today, we don't need to wear hazmat suits. I swore to myself if we had to wear them one more time-

Anyways, the first people I'm supposed to meet with are Maia Roberts and Simon Lewis.

Clary recommended them to me- of course.

Simon was her best friend before she started working for my mom. Maia is his girlfriend, apparently, she is a little violent, but I deserve it.

For some reason, I think I'm more terrified to meet the healthy ones.

Maybe I should be.
