Magnus

Day number one.

I made quick eye contact with Mr. Lightwood while he was escorting us to quarantine.

From the moment I locked eyes with him- I knew how much I hated him.

I look down at the terrified little girl beside me, "it's okay Madzie- they won't split us up."

She gently pulls on my sleeve, gesturing for me to pick her up.

I do, and scan the crowd in front of me.

Most people have broken down, either crying or screaming- but a few people around me were silent.

Then there was Madzie.

I had to take her away from my best friend.

Catarina had early symptoms, since Madzie was staying with me while she developed them, she had to be quarantined early with the other people in her condition.

Madzie is strong. Even with her age, her presence reassured us- made us keep fighting.

I noticed a few people among the crowd- mutual friends, through a girl named Clary- who ditched us for the government.

Anyways, by the time I'm done contemplating my life choices, me and Madzie are surrounded by workers in hazmat suits.

They check our vitals and take a blood sample.

I can speak for the both of us when I say that we are feeling good. I haven't had one symptom of this disease- neither has Madzie.

When the signs show up, it's normally too late. Always tired, loss of appetite, loss of breath, coughing up blood, and the worst migraines you could ever have in your life.

As I assumed, me and Madzie got escorted to the "healthy" sector, even though we are still treated like we're sick.

We get put with Simon and Maia, only a couple of our mutual friends.

As we walk into the room, I noticed it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

A large window overlooked a lake on the far side of the room. Lining the walls were bunk beds on either side of the room. We had some storage for things that they let us keep.

We were all allowed to bring some things from our homes, but workers took them and disinfected them.

I had brought a few pairs of clothes, nothing too important. The only things that are important to me are my friends.

Most of those are gone now, too.

Thanks to the plague. I was living in New York, when people started talking. The disease started in California- I don't know how. I don't care how.

It's a problem. It needs to be stopped. Maryse Lightwood hasn't done a thing.

If I ever got the chance to meet her- I'd say, "you are responsible for these people. You. Not your children," then I'd continue, "You need to do something."

It's not like I ever will.

As soon as I put my stuff away, I try the door, and it opens.

Before I explore, I ask, "Hey Maia, Simon?"

"Yeah?" They call from the bathroom.

"Can you look after Madzie for a bit?"

   "Sure."

I had noticed a courtyard as we walked in, and apparently it's for the healthy people.

We also have a patio for, I'm assuming, when it rains.

It has tables and a couple extra doors for employees.

I run my hand through my hair and sit down.

"Hey, you okay?" I feel a hand on my shoulder.

I turn to see a ginger haired girl wearing a mask.

  "Biscuit?"

"Magnus," she wraps her arms around me.

I want to pull away, but seeing her familiar face amongst the sea of strangers was better than I thought it'd be.

"What are you doing here?" I say as I pull away.

"I specifically asked Mrs. Lightwood to assign me to your sector."

"Hey!" I hear Simon say as he emerged from our room.

   "Simon?" She gaped.

She runs up and hugs him.

He doesn't hug back, "you left us. You left me- for him."

   "Simon-"

"No," he turns back to where Maia is walking out.

She puts her hands on his shoulders and consoled him.

She ushered him into the room, and turned back towards Clary.

"Bitch!" She yelled and ran at her.

She pushed Clary to the ground and put her arm against her neck.

   "You broke him!" She growled.

The security guards grabbed Maia's arms and dragged her off.

Clary was still on the ground, mouth open in shock.

"Here," I put out my arm for her.

   "I hated leaving them."

"They'll come around," I say and put my arm over her shoulders, "you did it for love."

"Would you leave everyone for a person you loved?"

"I don't know."
