Finding The Way Back to You

Chapter 26- An understanding

I sit in my room, staring at the floor in disbelief, thinking about my mother and I's conversation.

Flashback

"Mom!" She nods. Tears well up in my eyes. "How?" 

"Just after your father and I sent you off, we headed toward another pod, but we didn't think that we would make it. We got there and your father pushed me into it, only having enough time to get me into it and get it working. He sent me off right as Krypton was destroyed. Later, I joined a few other Kyrptonians that had made it off and we went into the future and found a way back to Krypton. We spent so long repairing it to what it once was. There's still a lot of work to do and it will be years before we can work to bring the world killers here. After we cure them of course. I learned that it was you who did that." She nods at me before continuing. 

"With your help, we can cure the world killers and build Krypton again. We can be together. It'll be just like old times, except your father won't be here."

"Mom,"I say, my voice shaking. I don't even have to hesitate to tell her this. "I can't stay here. I have a life back on Earth. A life that you sent me there to build."

"But you can start a new life here. I already have a Kryptonian who is so excited to be your husband."

"Wait, what?" I'm no longer calm now.

"Damien. One of the people who brought you here. Who brought you back to me. He's lovely and I trust him. He'll be good to you."

I look at her sadly. While I created a life, my Mom has been working to create what we had and what would've been.

"I'm married," I tell her, my voice a whisper. Her head shoots up and she slowly gets off of her chair, coming toward me.

"Who?" She asks me.

"Mon-El. He's a Daximite." She is right in front of me now and suddenly her hand strikes out, hitting my face. Agony erupts in cheek and I put my hand to it. She turns away and motions me to go. 

End of Flashback

A knock on the door pulls me out of my thoughts. It's Ashley. She comes into my room and gently shuts the door. 

"Are you okay?"she asks me. I shake my head and she smiles grimly.

"At least she's alive. I wished my mother was."

"Your mother's dead?"

"Yeah,"she nods. "She died on Krypton with my dad."

"I'm sorry. I would happily trade with you." Her eyes widen in shock and confusion. "I just lived for so long thinking that she was dead. Then, I'm forced here to live with her when I have a life, a family."

"That must be hard. I can't even imagine." She shakes her head.

"Why are you being nice to me?"

"Because you're a nice person. I heard about how you save people. It's so inspiring how you lost everything, but are still willing to help other people."

"Thank you,"I say glad to have found at least one nice person. "That means a lot to me."

"I'm sorry that you were forced here. If I could, I would help you leave." She looks down and I sigh. I'm about to speak when a portal suddenly opens up behind her. There's a flash and I look away. 

When I look that way, Mon-El, Alex, Cisco, and J'onn are standing there. J'onn is holding Ashley up against the wall, his arm on her throat.

"Hey, leave her alone,"I yell. He jerks back in surprise. "She's a friend."  I turn away when I'm sure he won't hurt her and I hug Alex and Mon-El.

"Thank you for coming for me." They start protesting when the door flies open. My mom stands there looking very unhappy.

"You can't leave, Kara. I forbid you too,"she screams. I step toward her.

"You can't forbid me to do anything. I'm an adult now and I am going to leave."

"But I just got you back,"she whines, tears in her eyes.

"No, you forced me to come and I'm not the same scared, little girl that you sent to Earth." 

"I know. I'm just sad that I missed you growing up."

Alex chimes in. "If you want, I'll tell you all about her teenage years and all of that." Alura turns toward her.

"Really?" 

"Anytime,"Alex says nodding. My mom comes and puts her hands on my face.

"I love you so much. I'm sorry that I forced you here. You've grown up into a beautiful woman and I'm glad that I've gotten to see that."

"I love you too, Mom. I just have my own life and a different family. One that's taken care of me and raised me into who I am today."

"Thank you,"she says to Alex. "For taking care of my daughter." She turns to Mon-El. "I don't necessarily agree with this marriage, but if you're good enough for my daughter, then you're good enough for me." Mon-El nods and wraps his arm around my waist.

"Goodbye my beautiful daughter. I love you."

"I love you too, Mom,"we hug and Cisco has us all link our hands together as he vibes us home.
