Chapter 14

All I can think of is that idiotic conversation I had with Christina.  None of it made any sense.  What girl, scratch that, what popular girl is mad that and average girl has a guy that likes her.  Is it such a sin? It’s not like Christina knew Luke before I did.  It can’t be that.  He’s not in any of the popular groups, at least not that I know of.  It is strange how she was talking to him the other day at lunch, and how she kissed him, even if it was just on the cheek.  Wait, do they already know each other?  No.  They can’t.

I push all negative thoughts from my head as I try to search this grocery store once again to find another pepperoni pizza that my mom wants.  Why can’t we have Chinese food for once? 

I find one easily this time and proceed to the cash registers.  After standing in line for what seems like forever I finally make it to the cashier.  And just to my luck, it’s Luke.

“Hey there.” He says with his adorable smile on his face.

“Hey.” I answer, not sure what to do after my run in with the devil.  She probably has her own spawn of mini demons watching me in case I ‘take her man’. 

“You okay?” Luke asks while he scans my items. 

No I’m not okay.  Your little blonde friend is trying to blackmail me to stay away from you.

“Yeah I’m fine.  So listen what is going on between you and Sat…I mean Christina?”

“Jess, we already talked about this. Nothing is going on between us.  You know how I feel about you.” He says and stops what he is doing to give me that look that makes my insides melt.  The one where his green eyes seem to grow and his eyebrows rise.  Geez Jessica, stay on track here.

“I know but, how could someone you barley know or not even know at all like you so fast?  And you aren’t even that well known around school.” He gives an offended look. “No offense” I add to make it seem less rude.

He laughs and presses a button on the cash register.

“That’ll be eleven dollars and sixteen cents. What you said is true, I’m not very popular.”  I pay him in cash the exact amount.

“It’s not like you already knew her and dated her already that she would be interested in you.” I say half joking.  But when I look at him I realize my joke was actually true.  He looks to the floor and plays with his fingers.

“You already dated her didn’t you?” I ask even though I know the answer.

“It was a long time ago Jess.” He starts.

“Wow.” I grab the pizza and I start walking.  How he could he know how much I despise her and how much we don’t get along and still not have told me this.  No wonder crazy head is after me.  She still likes him and now he likes me.  At least I hope he does.
