Chapter 4
I wake up to annoying beeping of my alarm. I hit the snooze button on my clock and roll back onto my side on the bed. I am not ready to go to school today. Wait…it’s Saturday. Today is mine and Jake’s two month anniversary. My eyes widen and I turn over and check my clock on the dresser by my bed. It reads 3:30 pm. What? I have never slept in this late before. I throw the blanket off of me and rush out of the bed and into the bathroom. I turn on the shower and strip off my clothes. Once the water is just right I hop in. The hot water helps loosen my muscles and I feel the stress from yesterday wash out of me. I wash my hair and clean my body before stepping out of the shower. I immediately wrap a towel around my freezing body. Once I dry myself off I put on my undergarments and dress myself in a pair of jean shorts and a yellow tank top.
A ringing on my phone alerts me. I pick up my phone from my dresser and see that I have a text message from Jake.
From Jake:
“Happy anniversary babe :* see you soon”
I smile at his comment and quickly send a reply.
To Jake:
“Happy 2 months to you too!! <3 see ya”
I send the message and put my phone back on the dresser. I search my closet for the perfect outfit for tonight. After struggling for about five minutes on what to wear, I decide on wearing my light blue fleece shirt and white skinny jeans along with black pumps. I hate heels but this is a special day and I should wear them for once.
After getting dressed I quickly dry my hair and curl it my long brown strands. I put on some light foundation and a bit of mascara. I look at myself in the mirror and I am satisfied with how I look. I grab my purse from lying on my floor and my phone. I leave my bedroom and descend from the spiral staircase that leads to the living room where I find my parents sitting on the couch.
“So nice of you to wake me this morning.” I say standing behind them. My mother and father turn around quickly as if startled by me. Of course they are. How are they supposed to know I’m awake? They didn’t bother to check.
“Sorry honey. You just looked so tired last night like you were in such a deep sleep. I didn’t want to wake you.” My mother says removing her glasses from her face.
“Everyone looks like that in their sleep. I needed to get a head start today. It’s mine and Jake’s two month anniversary. I have a surprise planned.” I say to her which calmed my unnecessary anger.
“Oh. And what would that be?” my father asks with a scowl. Oh god. I know what he’s thinking.
“Dad! That’s not what I meant!” I yell and feel my cheeks blush at the thought.
“Maybe it’s not what you meant, but that sure is what Jake wants.” Ashton mumbles as he enters the living room from the kitchen. I look down at my feet not knowing how to respond. I know that’s what Jake may have in mind, but he knows that I don’t want to do anything overboard. But Ashton is right.
“He doesn’t always get what he wants.” I answer back to my brother. My parents look back and forth between us while Ashton and I stare at each other blankly.
“Don’t you have something to do?” Ashton says harshly referring to my plans for the day.
“Yeah and it’s going to be great.” I retort with the best comeback I could think of at the moment.
“Bye mom bye dad.” I say walking over to the door.
“Bye Jess!” They answer and wish me luck. I turn back around to look at my brother.
