Chapter 15:
The second my eyes even fluttered I was on high alert.
I woke up to hearing rustling around me and that was all it took to spark the million thoughts whirling around my head. My first question of concern, where was that noise coming from? I listened intently, barely even breathing trying to figure out what was happening.
I knew it wasn't my mom. If it was her then she was being way too delicate. There was nothing graceful about my mom in any way, she was such a klutz. Constantly she would run herself into tables or suddenly drop everything she was holding. No, these noises were soft, as if the person didn't want to wake me up, something my mother wouldn't be capable of doing.
Then who was it? And how did I even get here?
Whenever I am on high alert, my senses are heightened and super focused. I pieced together where I was in a matter of seconds, but the how I was still a little fuzzy on. I could feel the soft material of my comforter surrounding me, along with my pillow supporting my head. Last time I checked, I was watching Frozen on the couch then I moved up to my bedroom. I guess I made it. But that still doesn't explain who is in my room!
Everyone was still in school too, so that canceled out the twins and my friends. It could've been a doctor, but I doubt that a doctor would rummage around carelessly with my things.
That's it. I couldn't take it anymore. I was done playing detective. I want to know who is in my room and what they are doing messing with all of my stuff.
"Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my bedroom!" My voice boomed.
I waited for an answer, but there was only silence. I probably should've told the person in advance that whenever I was sick, I got highly irritable. So I swear to the good lord that if this person doesn't speak up in two seconds I will-
A chuckle sounded from the person's direction, quieting my thoughts. It was that warm sound that I had grown to become attached to, craving every second of it that I got. I instantly recognized it in less than a second, the sound belonging to the one person who I kind of wanted to see today. I had a lot of questions to ask him, but more or less, I just wanted his company. I hated being alone in the house.
"You don't remember me, Louisa?" He said, his voice feigning hurt.
I scowled at him, pretending that I wasn't relieved as I was after hearing his voice. "Don't you have school?"
I heard his footsteps approaching me and I could already feel the blush coming. I couldn't help thinking about last night. He probably woke up with me leaning on his shoulder and decided that I officially was crazy. That's most likely why he left without waking me up or anything. And why did I stay there anyways! I could've moved and spared us both the embarrassment.
As soon as he touched my hand all of those thoughts ran out of my brain. I jerked my hand out of his grasp. "Don't touch me, you could get sick! I have a fever!"
He paused, hovering above my bed before I felt his hand touch mine again. I give up. If he was going to risk getting sick then fine, but he shouldn't come crying to me with a fever.
But if I don't sign with your hand then how can I communicate with you?
I hesitated before speaking, not really wanting to say this but then again, I don't want to beat around the bush anymore. "You could always just talk to me. And I mean more than just a few words at a time. I won't judge you at all."
