Now let's deal with a very important issue – motivation – which is a driving force pushing You towards the goal. Without appropriate motivation the chances of reaching Your goal are small. It happens even when You are on the right path and keep Your goal in sight, but You still are completely dependent on the external factors. As we know, when our goals are set, we are properly shaped, just like a piece of paper formed into a plane shape. That's when we can properly adjust the placement of the wings, so that the wind, which is a symbol of unpredictability, wouldn't throw us out of the path leading to the goal. Without appropriate driving force we may be stuck in one place, waiting for the fate to kindly allow us to move forward on our path to the goal.
It is true that setting the goals is one of the most important things anyone should do in their lives in order to be happy. However, whether You will reach Your goal or move closer to it depends on many factors. One of them, as I have said many times before, is the unpredictability – the wind which appears on our path; this force is completely independent from us, and is always present. You have to be aware of the existence of this force, because otherwise You may easily lose control of Your steering wheel and You will allow the wind to drive You so far from the path that You won't be able to keep Your goal in sight anymore. However, when You are aware of that force, You can keep on following the chosen path, even if the force will be trying to throw You out of the path to the goal. If You also have motivation – the driving force – You will be able to stand up to the wind and move closer to the goal. Remember: the stronger Your driving force (motivation) is, the greater windstorms (random events) You can weather on Your path to the goal.
If You don't have any motivation, You will adopt a more passive attitude. Even if You have a goal which will allow You to follow the chosen path, You may not be moving forward if the random events aren't in Your favor. That's when a certain paradox occurs, because on the one hand You're on the path leading to the goal and You act in a way which helps You keep on facing towards it, but on the other hand You agree with the randomness of achieving it. It's very similar to a gambling game – You can count on good luck which will push You closer to Your goal, but You have to realize that the likelihood of achieving Your goal that way is very little and You may not live long enough to achieve it. Ask Yourself: how many people who have won the National Lottery do You know?
Therefore, if You want to reach the goal, You have to adopt an active, not passive, stance. You must have motivation – Your driving force, thanks to which You will consciously counter various obstacles on Your path to the goal.
Divide Your goal into smaller intermediate goals, because the achievement of each of them will increase Your motivation on Your path to the goal.
I can guarantee that when You reach one of Your goals, however small it may be, You get more motivated to reach another, greater goals! Having bigger motivation is like replacing the drive engine with one with greater power. Dividing Your goal into smaller intermediate goals is extremely important. When You will have a knack in gaining bigger motivation, with time Your engine will become so strong that nothing will hold You back on Your path to the goal!
