Why is setting the health goals so important?

You may wonder – why the health goals? It's obvious that everybody wants to be healthy, so why should it be a goal? Let me put it shortly – it's a fact that everybody wants to be healthy; however, the mere claim "I want to be healthy" indicates that it's just a form of a wish "I want something, I would like something". Things expressed as wishes are not the goals! We wish we were healthy but we don't do anything to achieve it. Why is it so? Because when we wish for something, in this case for health, we subconsciously presume that it doesn't depend on us. It would be nice to be healthy... We presume that because... Exactly, because what? It's very similar to school exams: I would like to get an A in a particular subject, but... Exactly, I would like it so I wish for it, but if I don't do anything in that direction (if I won't learn for an exam), I definitely won't get an A! It depends on us, provided that we decide that. The decision sets the goal, because when we decide about something, we make it clear for ourselves that we have to do some actions in order to make it happen. Therefore, it's no longer just a wishful thinking. In order to be healthy, it should be our goal to be healthy – we should decide that it will be so and that we will work towards it. If we don't set such goal, our life may become a series of never-ending frustrations, which will deepen the feeling of the lack of purpose of our lives. It very often leads to a long-term depression, which can even be a cause of a suicide attempt! A lot of people may not even be aware what the real cause of that state of things is, because the loss of health badly impacts all aspects of our lives. It's like a house – without a solid foundation it will sooner or later perish, no matter how wonderful it looks and how much money we've put in its creation. Our health is like a foundation of a house – sooner or later our lives may perish, no matter how much money we spent on SPA, massages or beauticians. As You can see, it's good to take care of that foundation.

Right now, we should decide to be healthy – not that we want to be healthy – but to BE healthy. That way we set our goal – being healthy – and we build our foundation. As You perfectly know, if we didn't set that goal, we would be like a rumpled piece of paper moved by the wind in all directions. But You want to be like a plane and, more importantly, now You know how to do it!

The goal connected with health – our decision to be healthy and to lead a healthy lifestyle – should be one of our main goals – the goal of our lives. It is clear that this is a very important and long-term goal. In order not to be discouraged by its heaviness and to control our flight in its direction more easily, we should set the intermediate stations – the so-called intermediate goals, which will help us fly in the right direction and keep our goal in sight.

We've decided to lead a healthy lifestyle and, as a result, we will be in a good health. We also know that it's a huge goal which should be one of our main life goals. In order to reach it it's worth to use the advice presented in the book "Lifestyle Rentgen czyli 7 filarów zdrowia" ("The X-Ray of Lifestyle – the 7 Pillars of Health") by Adam Kasperek. Health is made up of many components, and that's why we should take a holistic (comprehensive) approach to it. However, we should remember that each of the pillars of health itself is very important and should be approached individually – we should break the goal connected with this pillar into smaller intermediate goals. That way the goal will be more tangible and it will help us believe that we can achieve our main goal. The achievement of every intermediate goal, however small it may be, will bring us satisfaction and heighten our motivation to undertake further actions.
