Shield yourself with your persistence

Now let's move to the practical part of persistence. Your personal shield which paves the path to Your goal. In order to properly present this question, let us continue with the examples introduced before. Let's go back to the people you know really well – person A whose goal is fame and person B who wants to travel the world.

The part talking about your shield (persistence) is made up of three sections. In the first one, 'The images in the mind', you should write down your images which you perceive as if they already were a part of your reality. How to do that? Close Your eyes and relax. Think about Your goal just as if You've already reached it. Allow the movie to start forming in Your head. Feel every moment, every detail and relish the tastes, smells, and sounds. Feel it as if You were daydreaming. This movie is really important because it is related to Your subconscious mind. In short: Your subconscious mind from now on will "make sure" that this event (the movie) becomes reality. It will pave the path to Your goal each time some unexpected problems, making it difficult to reach it, will occur.

After writing down Your images in the first section, proceed to the next one. In the second section titled "Objects" write down all the objects You could use in Your everyday life to casually evoke Your mental image which will reassure and fuel Your belief in reaching the goal. The point is that those objects should have some distinguishing features and be closely linked to Your image. Then, if You look at such object, You will automatically evoke in Your mind that very important image, which will positively impact Your subconscious mind.

In the third section – "Plans" – write down all activities which will require some regularity from You – activities which will occur recurrently. Of course those activities have to be performed in a way which will bring You closer to Your goal. The cyclicity will turn those activities into habit and, as a result, You will perform them automatically, without great effort. Remember that sometimes it is better to take small steps but keep moving on instead of taking actions which require a lot of energy once in a blue moon, only to suddenly lose energy after a while and get discouraged to take any further actions.

The goal of person A: Fame

1. The images in the mind

I am wearing exclusive, designer clothes. I'm sitting in a black limo driven by my chauffeur. The speakers play one of my favorite songs – "Bad" by Michael Jackson. I get out of the car which stops in front of an expensive restaurant in which the greatest celebrities are having a meeting. The guard greets me at the door and says that a lot of people has already asked for me and they cannot wait for me to arrive. He politely invites me in. The service immediately brings me a delicious drink. I sip it slowly while talking to celebrities. Well, after all I am one of them!

2. Objects

- setting a picture of the designer clothes which images we had in our mind as the computer wallpaper,

- hanging a cover of a book which we have just started writing on the wall in the living room,

- setting the song "Bad" by Michael Jackson as the alarm clock.

3. Plans

- taking part in meetings with other writers,

- taking part in an Internet forum about writing,

- making a promise to a friend that each week he will receive a new chapter of our book to read.


The goal of person B: Travelling the world

1. The images in the mind

I'm in Africa. It's hot, but that's what I love. I'm holding a professional camera which I use to take photos of giraffes. After taking photos I get into the jeep and drive to the village. When I arrive, a lot of cute children gather around me and are happy to see me.

2. Objects

- the key ring in the shape of a giraffe,

- the photograph wallpaper in the living room,

- the picture of the jeep as the wallpaper of the computer and the smartphone.

3. Plans

- taking part in a forum about travelling,

- putting a particular sum of money in the piggy-bank everyday in order to buy the camera of our dreams,

- getting in touch with people who has spent a long period of time in Africa.
