The Last Good Day

The room was completely silent. My mom's face was sad and I didn't know what she was going to say.

"Hon. The other day it came to me. Scooter is a good dog, but he has had a lot of trouble and- Do you remember what I told you when you said you wanted a dog?"

I nodded. "If I wanted a dog, he couldn't get into trouble." She smiled and nodded.

"I also said if he gets into trouble you can't keep him." My heart broke when she said that. I couldn't hold in my feelings.

"NO! NO! YOU CANT TAKE HIM AWAY! DO YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY HE HAS MADE ME?!" I screamed in her face. It was extreme, but Scooter is still young and I don't want to lose him.

"Let me finish!" She sighed. "I've been talking to a friend lately, and she has heard of this dog training camp that lasts from September to May. And- and I've already signed Scooter up." At this point I was in tears with my hands on my face.

"mom y-you can't do t-this." I cried. "Honey. Tomorrow is your last day with Scooter, but don't worry. He'll be back in May." My jaw dropped.

"You can't do this! Scooter is my dog! It should be my choice if he leaves!" I stormed into my room and slammed the door.

I couldn't sleep. All that I could think about was Scooter not being here. I held him in my arms and cried not wanting him to go.

THE NEXT DAY

I got three and a half hours of sleep. My eyes were puffy and I had lost my voice the night before. I looked dead.

I took Scooter on a walk around town, just to show him everything. I had to be home by 5. That's when he was leaving.

We stopped at the park, on a gazebo. I sat down and Scooter cuddled beside me.

I started to cry. It was like Scooter knew what was happening. I started to think: what if Scooter didn't remember me when he came back?

I got some ice cream and we pretty much had a normal day, but it wasn't normal. I had to go home and lose Scooter. When I arrived at the house, a car was in the driveway and my mom was talking on the porch with some woman.

"Oh there they are." My mother said pointing in my direction. I carefully walked up. The lady introduced herself and told me Scooter would be okay. "Trust me. Scotter-" "Scooter." I corrected her. "Scooter. Whatever. But the main thing is he will be a good dog when he comes back.

I started to tear up. She grabbed him and pulled away. I sadly waved goodbye.
