Chapter 28:Yassef, where are you?
THE COLD AIR OF CENTER ENGLAND, passed through my scarf and my coat the minute I walked outside my workplace. My shift was over, time for Yassef to come pick me up. I wouldn't be waiting in the cold if he didn't offer to give me a ride this morning. Or if he didn't take a day off from work, he wouldn't need to come pick me up. He wouldn't need to go through all this trouble.
The sky was dark and I felt alone, tugging my coat around my body like tape. If I let go, I'd instantly get pneumonia. I should've known it would be this cold considering the bipolar weather England gives us.
It rains here and then after an hour it would be humid. Sometimes it would give you a vibe that says 'don't bring your jacket, today is warm' but after an hour of being out, dark clouds would appear and little did you expect the pouring rain falling on your dash board.
I thought I'd be used to it by now but I was terribly wrong.
Where is he? Doesn't he know I finish my shift by 5? Did he forget that I come out half an hour before Esteban comes out? So if he doesn't come around now, I'm screwed.
I've called him several times too but no use. He doesn't even pick up his phone when I'm calling. Is he avoiding my calls? I can't help but think that. If I call, then answer because it means it's urgent.
As you can see, I have the option of waiting for Yassef in the store. But because the blonde bucket haired freak, is in there I'd rather wait in the cold. But not this long. . . I didn't think it would take this long.
Every time the door of the store opened, I'd whip my head back just to check if it was him. Esteban.
This time, it wasn't. It was another one of my co-workers named Denise. She was nice, a dark red haired girl who was very friendly to everyone. We don't talk much at the store on the job, we mostly talk at lunch on our break times. Her hair flew back as soon as the wind blew.
She turned to my shivering figure outside the store, "Emaan? Your waiting for your ride in the cold?"
I chuckled, "y-yeah" stuttering in my words, "Have a good night"
"You think I'm just gunna leave you here? Get in the store!" She spoke from at least 10 meters away, "There's heat in there"
I looked down at my feet and shook my head, "I think I'm good out here"
I had my reasons not to get inside. Religious reasons and personal reasons. I was avoiding the one thing that scares me. Everyday, I fear that I'll be approached by him. If he can come in my house uninvitingly, and touch my ear scarf repeatedly and even threaten me in the parking lot, who knows what he'll do next? I'm not safe.
When I took a look at Denise, she stomped on the cement floor, crooning her head to the side and watched me, "Your cold. That's not healthy"
I don't want to get inside now leave me alone— sounded a bit harsh so I toned it down, "I'm fine."
