COLLEGE APPLICATIONS.College, college, college.
I'm twenty one and I still didn't go to college.
I mean I've been to college before but I took a break in the middle of the semester (big mistake) but it happened. Ever since then, I've never paid my tuition and well, you can guess how much trouble I'm in.
Actually right now, I'm applying for scholarships. Usually scholarships were never available a few years after high school but I saw a few plans online and I thought that'd be interesting. I've searched all over, including international colleges/universities but to my misery, I found none.
Before I came to England, when I used to love in Ottawa/ Canada, I've always wanted to go University of Ottawa. The school was mostly known for its French programs but I was willin to go there to probably study the French language anyways since it's been a language I've spoken before.
I applied for U-Ottawa last weekend, just for heck of it. Mostly because of my past and knowing well that I still have my dad's side of the family living there. Obviously I didn't think it through, if I would actually go. But if I did, it wouldn't be terrible.
Would it?
I just finished watching the first episode of the second season of river dale when I decided I should probably check my emails. In been weeks, and weeks, since I've checked and maybe I've gotten an email back from a college or a university.
Carelessly, I clicked on the mail icon. I was on the couch in my living room, Yassef currently in the kitchen doing god knows what.
When I refreshed the page, the first thing I noticed was four emails, from...Colleges?
What?
I thought acceptances took months now that I don't exactly go to high school and it's not application season but apparently that doesn't matter. The first one was oxford.
Oxford? No. I only applied because it's a high end university. When I checked the email, it actually did accept me. The only thing was the expenses that came with it and that's when I knew...no. The expenses are too much and not only that, but they didn't review my application for a scholarship.
I closed that email and went on to the next. The following two emails were advertisements, and I didn't exactly pay much attention to it. I deleted those two and came to the last one.
U-Ottawa.
My eyes skimmed the email. I read word for word, every thing said in the email. When I came across a certain paragraph, I squealed.
Yes, squealed. Like a little girl.
Yassef must've heard my scream from the kitchen because before I knew it, he was beside me. He had a mouth full of what I'm guessing is pie, and a black hoodie full of small stains.
"What?" He asked curiously. Half said, half muffled.
I pointed to my computer, unable to really say the words.
I got accepted. Not only did I get accepted but they reviewed my scholarship application and...Gave me a fee of only 5,000 dollars.
Only 5 thousand.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing and from the look on Yassef's face when he looked down at the screen, he couldn't either. He slowly stopped cheeing his food when suddenly he pointed at the logo of the school, "U-O? What does that stand for?"
"University of Ottawa." I tell him cheerfully, "Didn't you read it? Look, look—" I urged him to read the email, "I got accepted! Not only that, but they reviewed my application for a scholarship and look, right here—" I pointed then at the cost, "5,000 Yassef! Only 5,000 dollars and guess what? I don't even need your money to invest in that because I have my own money to afford this—"
