It'd been many days since she gained her freedom. She had no problem surviving. There were many times she bump into a bunch of Fire Nation soldiers or bandits, but she'd kick their ass every time they'd try to hurt her.
Defending herself was one of the many things she was made to learn from her youngest age.
~*~
An eight-year-old fighting an adult. She wasn't just an adult, she was a great warrior and knocked the little girl out many times.
"You need to believe in yourself. You're stronger than that!"
"For goodness sakes, Gratia, she's a child,"
"A child born in war. She needs to learn fighting, we have no time, Ursa,"
~*~
No time for what she never really understand. She loved her Aunt. She had taught her everything she knew. But sometimes, she acted strangely as if she were hiding something. Gratia never got to tell her of course. She gave her life, trying to protect her niece.
The past is useless. Everything that comes with it is useless. But pain was the one thing she failed to erase from it.
She had learned the news of the great victory of the Northern Water Tribe against the Fire Nation. She never cared about choosing sides in this war. It was pretty much the same for her. She just didn't care.
She had just entered a village named 'Plains'. It was the quietest place she had ever been to. She looked around the village. The sun was hot enough to burn her skin. People hid behind their houses in fear. Earth Kingdom soldiers that were supposed to protect that village were just sitting down playing Pai-Sho.
She just shrugged. She didn't care the least. All she wanted was to pack some supplies on her ostrich-horse and get the hell out of this place. She walked towards the only market of the village and bought two sacks of rice and filled her pouch with water. That should be enough to keep her for a week. She had survived for days without food it wasn't any big deal for her.
She packed the things on the ostrich-horse and before she even had the chance to jump on it and ride away she heard a voice.
"Hey, you're throwing eggs at us, stranger," The three Earth Kingdom soldiers walked towards a man standing at the shop.
"No," The stranger said keeping his back turned at the other three.
"Seems like you threw it,"
The man turned around. His hand grabbed firmly his broadswords that rested in their case tied around his waist. His face was quite familiar. That scar was something she'd never forget. She gritted her teeth containing the surprise of her realization. Prince Zuko!
She started regretting saving his life that night. Who knows what possible threat he could cause if he'd recognize her.
"No," Zuko said.
"Is that your favorite word 'no'?" One of the soldiers asked.
"It had to come from somewhere,"
"Maybe a chicken flew over," Zuko said with a hidden tone of sarcasm in his voice.
When the man in the shop handed Zuko the sacks of rice one of the soldiers grabbed them and took them with them "Thanks for your contribution. The army appreciates your support," and they left.
"Those soldiers were supposed to protect us from the Fire Nation, but they're just a bunch of thugs," The shopkeeper said.
She rolled her eyes and sighed cursing the things she felt right about. She took one of the two sacks of rice and threw it over Zuko's feet. Zuko looked at her while she fixed the saddle on her ostrich-horse.
"Why did you-?" Zuko tried to ask but she cut him.
"You won't survive long in this desert without food, trust me," she said.
He picked it up and he walked towards her. She kept her face turned on the other side trying to hide it. "It's yours, you should have it,"
"Oh, please, don't try to be the just and kind guy. We're in war. You and I both know that it takes strength to survive," She said as she climbed on the ostrich-horse and wrapped the reins.
"Wait! You remind me of someone," Zuko said as he got in front of the ostrich-horse preventing it from getting away.
"I take that a lot," She said and she nudged her ostrich-horse to start running away.
She could feel his eyes resting on her, but she barely cared.

Here it is, guys! I know it's small and I guess this whole book will be small since I'm skipping almost everything. I've become pretty lazy.
But I'm keeping all the relationship building for the next chapters.
