~Red's POV
I notice her face out of the corner of my eye. Her eyes are red, and tears have left their mark on her cheeks. How long has she been crying? It hurts to see her like this, just a week after her emotional episode. Why did she make up the excuse about allergies, and what feelings is she talking about? Nah, that can't be possible.
The school bell rings, signaling the end of our class. She swiftly packs her things, heading for the door. I want to talk to her, apologize, but before I know it, she's already outside.
I gather my things and follow her. "Hey nerd!" Jane calls out. "What now?" Gianne fires back. Hiding behind a pillar, I overhear the taunts. "Where's your prince charming?" Krista teases. "Did you fight? Oh, I forgot. He broke up with you. Hahaha!" Lina adds. The Amigas launch into a hurtful tirade, suggesting betrayal and heartbreak. Gianne's sobs are audible. "Our strong princess wannabe is crying," Krista mocks. "Your relationship didn't last long, did it? He's just playing with you. Serves you right. Hahaha!" Jane's words enrage me, and I bolt out of hiding to embrace Gianne.
"Baby! Hey, why did you—" I let go of her, pretending surprise. "Hey, why are you crying?" I glare at the Amigas. "You... What did you do? Why is she crying?" I demand sternly. "We thought you're already—" Jane begins, but I cut her off.
"Broke up? No. That won't happen," I assert. "Answer me. What did you do to make her cry like this?" I raise my voice.
"We didn't do anything..." Jane's feeble denial fuels my anger. I hug Gianne. "It's okay. I'm here now," I say, patting her back. Letting go, I warn the Amigas. "I told you multiple times already. Don't do anything to her. This is my last warning. Don't touch my girlfriend. Do this again, I swear," I threaten with venom.
Dragging Gianne out of the school, I hear her sobs as we walk. Silence prevails. No one dares to speak. At the same coffee shop as before, she keeps her head down. Breaking the silence, I apologize. "I know what happened," I tell her. "You know?" she looks up, facing me. "Tell me, how long have you been crying?" I touch her cheek. "Look, your face is really red, and your eyes are swollen and puffy," I say, concerned.
"I'm sorry," she mumbles. "No, I'm sorry. I should not have left you with them. I promised I'd always protect you, but..." I hold her hand. "I'm really sorry, Gianne," I say. "Why do you always do this?" she asks, confused. "Do what?" I question as I let go of her hand. "This... You always save me. You're confusing me," she says.
"I confuse you? How?" I'm bewildered. "You..." Then she puts her head down on the table. "Hey, Gianne, tell me what's wrong," I try to lift her head, but she keeps it down.
"Aren't you going to tell me what it is?" I say. "Alright then." I stand up. "Fine..." I hear her say. I sit back down and look straight into her eyes. "I know I rejected you last time. But..." She stops in the middle of her sentence. "Hey! Why'd you leave me hanging?" I say as she blushes. "Hey! It's hard to tell you, you know?" she says.
What is she trying to say? She's confusing me too. "Well, I... I..." She's struggling to express herself. "Relax, Gianne. Breathe in and out. Now tell me. What is it, Gianne?" I say, eagerly listening.
