Scorpius

I wipe the tears away from her pink cheeks and look into her beautiful eyes.

"It's okay," I whisper again, because I don't know what to say. When being with a girlfriend in my third, fourth year I always knew what to say, but this is different. Looking at Lily doesn't make me want to immediately snog her - with the emphasise on immediately - or take her hand or something. No, when looking at her all I want to do is remember every single detail about her. Her freckles, her smile, the way she raises her eyebrows when teasing someone. I just want to be with her.

Lunchtime is over, and people hurry back to the castle, except for us. Lily and I have just gotten up and after cleaning away all the crumbs we walk back to the castle, talking and laughing. Just before we enter the Entrance Hall I take her hand and look into her eyes.

"I like you," I say, grinning awkwardly.

"I like you too, Scorpius." she says, smiling and trying to cover up her blushing by hiding behind her flaming red hair.

I pull her close and let my chin rest carefully on her head.

A few days later I'm sitting at the Slytherin table just as the post arrives.

I'm glancing at Lily, as often as I can. Sometimes she glances at me too, and then I can't help but smile. Suddenly an owl drops a letter on my plate, causing my cup of "T" to fall and I use a quick spell to clean everything.

"Where are you with your thoughts?" Sequoia asks and she flutters her eyelashes in a desperate try to get my attention.

"Not with you, for sure," I answer while gritting my teeth and opening the envelope. Damn. It's a letter from my parents. What if - What if they know about Lily?!

Trying not to tremble I read their letter.

Dear Scorpius,

How is everything going at school?

I heard from professor Mellow your grades for Potions are Outstanding! Your mother and I are very proud of you, son.

We wish you lots of luck during Quidditch matches and  your studying for the OWLs this year and hope to see your during the Christmas holidays.

Love (scratched and replaced by)

Greetings,

Dad

I sigh with relief as I put the letter back in the envelope. No Potter-alarm. Yet.

"What are you doing here?" I ask surprised as I see Lily sitting on an empty spot - next to mine.

"Professor Mellow offered me to take an extra Potions class one day a week on a higher level and said I could skip one Potions class instead."

"Don't you have a lesson now, then?"

"I do, unfortunately, Defence Against the Dark Arts. Luckily we always read and take notes from the book at Thursdays, so I don't miss a lot. Do you know if someone sits right here?"

"Yeah, Goyle, but he'll move if Mellow - or I - say so."

"Oh, then I'll just sit somewhere else-"

"No wait! You can sit here, next to me."

"Are you sure?" she asks, blushing slightly.

"Yeah, of course!"

***

"From now on you will have an extra student in Potions from your house, Ravenclaws. Lily Potter will join us because in my opinion I feel that she needs more challenge in this subject."

"What year is she, sir?" Parkinson asks. I don't quite remember her first name, oops.

"She is a Third Year, Miss Parkinson, but make sure you don't underestimate her! A few days ago she has brewed a Sixth Year potion within sixty minutes."

"Shut up professor," Lily mutters next to me, not wanting all the attention.

"Hey, you should be proud of it," I whisper, trying to make her feel less uncomfortable.

"I know," she whispers back "I just want him to bloody start this lesson."

"But now the lesson!" Mellow says "I want you to team up and brew an OWL-level potion!"

Students start to groan but I see that Lily looks quite excited. That is why she misses a DADA lesson, after all.

Mellow waves with his wand and the directions to make the potion appear on the blackboard.

Merlin, that are a lot of directions! Heating it up until the temperature has risen to 78°C... stir it twice counter-clockwise and once clockwise... let it rest for 3 minutes and 47 seconds...

"Are we teaming up?" Lily asks, already gathering the ingredients.

"Yeah, sure," I say when still reading the text. "Have you-" I ask, pointing at the board.

"Yup," she mumbles, reading the first lines again. "Do you want to chop the dried nettles or fill the cauldron with 1/3 water and 2/3 -"

"No, I'd rather chop the nettles."

"Okay," she says, nodding.

***

A few minutes later our potion has the exact same lilac colour the book describes.

Lily looks at the next directions and starts adding toad eyes to it, stirring counterclockwise twice, then clockwise, counterclockwise again and twice clockwise.

I love the look on her face right now. Her emerald eyes are fixed on the lines on the board and on the potion, which turns light orange. Her lips are glinstering in the dim light of the fire beneath the cauldron and her cheeks are slightly pink.

"You look beautiful," I tell her while weighing the petals of a black rose.

"I know," she says, adding some kind of liquid to the potion.

I raise my eyebrows, not having expected such a confident respond.

"You were talking about the potion, right?" she asks, pointing at the golden substance.

"Actually no," I say while adding two petals to the potion which starts to boil. Lily stirs clockwise and I add three more.

"I was talking about you."
