"Hey guys, I'm back!" You greeted everyone upon entering the clubhouse.
It was past noon by the time you arrived on the Edge, you had spend the past night sleeping on some other island because Crystal got tired halfway to home so instead of forcing her to fly you decided it would probably be a good idea to camp on the island for the night.
The gang acknowledged you with a simple nod and went back to eating their food. Their lack of excitement didn't bother you that much so you took a bowl of soup and sat down next to Hiccup.
"So if anyone was wondering where I was..." You drawled some of the words and looked at everybody one by one and none of them had risen their head to even spare a glance. "I went to Whispering Death Island and then this massive white dragon popped out and chased me around."
"You've met the Screaming Death?" As suspected the mention of dragons grabbed Fishleg's attention. His voice was filled with confusion and his eyes were wide, unlike the rest who didn't show any emotion whatsoever.
"Is that how you call it? Gods, it was terrifying! Crystal and I barely got alive." You chuckled awkwardly at the last sentence and scanned the others again, and nothing they still sat quietly and ate their dish as if nobody has been talking.
You breathed in sharply and pushed off your food. "Okay why is everyone ignoring me? Is it because I didn't tell you were I was going? I'm sorry then! I didn't think it would make you guys this mad." Thankfully this made all of them look up.
"Its not that, (Y/N)." Astrid was the first one to replay, but she went silent again.
"Its just-" You faced Hiccup when he spoke next. He closed his mouth then, and bit his lip. "Its best if I tell you privately."
He then stood up and motioned you to follow him, without a single doubt you stood up and did as you were told, though not before sneaking a glance behind and seeing that everyone was looking at you. This was weird because they never acted this way so you silently braced yourself for what Hiccup had to say.
Hiccup waited for you to exit the clubhouse and he walked down the docks, you ran after him and stopped when you were walking side by side with him. You could see the uneasiness in his face and you knew he was just preparing what to say so you didn't pressure him into telling you right away.
When you locked eyes he sighed and finally spoke.
"Alvin is... dead."
Silence.
There was this deafening silence where nobody dared to utter a word. It was hard to process what Hiccup said, wondering if you had heard wrong, if your ears were playing a game on you. Your eyes fell on the ground, in an instant you lost the energy to stare straight forward.
No preparation in the world can make you comprehend what has happened.
"Alvin... is dead." You voice trailed off while you repeated Hiccup's words, telling them more to yourself rather than anyone else. Suddenly you had trouble to even be standing, you felt your legs beginning to wobble with each step you took.
Hiccup turned around and wrapped you into a hug, but your hands were still glued to your sides. He must've noticed this because he parted away soon after with a look on his face showing only pity. You didn't need it.
Your mind was numb yet all sorts of emotions bubbled inside. And one thought struck you.
As bad as it sounds...It should've been you who had the opportunity to end Alvin's life, to see him pleading for mercy, to see him finally apologize for his actions and for ruining your life. And now none of that was possible, you lost your chance. You will never achieve your life goal.
