Before the French Revolution...

In the palace of Versailles, King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette sit under a gazebo and enjoy a leisurely tea with the women of Queen Marie's family, the Dé La Cores. Among her family is her mother -Lorraine- and Madam Dorothea -her aunt and teacher in dark magical arts.

A guard hastily approaches the table exclaiming, "Majesties! There are rioters at the gates. You must be moved to safety, effect of immediately."

"Take the Royal family to safety, Lorraine and I will handle the rioters. Go!" Dorothea demanded to the guard.

Marie, Louis and their children were taken to Marie's 'peasant' estate while Lorraine and Dorothea enchanted the entrance of Versailles so that all who enter will see a panicked Marie running off to Louis' chambers and created a decoy Louis in his chambers.

Immediately, Lorraine and Dorothea evaporated to Marie's estate. Once Marie and Louis and the children arrived, they were all taken to Portugal and lived there for half a century before voyaging to North America and settling down in the present-day state of Louisiana.

The French Revolution went on as history says but instead of decapitating the real King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, Robespierre merely beheaded their shadows formed by magic.

Six centuries later...

Marie Antoinette, King Louis, their children, Lady Lorraine, Madam Dorothea, her mortal daughter Rachael, Rachael's boyfriend DeMarko and their two year old daughter Monroe live in the Dé La Core Mansion in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Monroe lay in her bed with her father stroking her forehead, "Do you have to go papa?"

"I wouldn't if it wasn't necessary, kitten."

"When will you come back?"

"I'll see you very soon. I promise. Sleep now."

DeMarko kissed her forehead for the very last time. He left and never came back. However, he sent her birthday gifts every year. Monroe's godfather, Stephan -a vampire from the Renaissance- remained her father figure until he and his younger brother, Mason had to go back to their small town of Crystal Cove in California.

Stephan was her Bond -a person whose wrongdoing feeds the darkness of another, purely for the purpose to remain sane- and after he left, Monroe's darkness consumed her, leaving her morbid, vain and without an interest in life. It was at this time her grandmother, Dorothea, broke a notorious serial rapist and killer -Daniel Haig- out of an asylum and assigned him as Monroe's Bond.

Monroe grew up with her mother. Monroe and her mother moved back into the Dé La Core Mansion after Monroe started high school. Two years later Monroe's mother was diagnosed with dementia.

She later committed suicide.
