Jez knew that Steve felt weird about not being able to fly. BlueJay, Iron Man and Thor could and Spiderman and Hulk basically could. The only Avengers who couldn’t were human agents with a high skill set. Steve didn’t think that flying would suit him but in a way he wished he could be up there with Jez and fly around New York with her. He was jealous that Peter Parker could give Jez so many things that he couldn’t, including a normal life.
That night Jez decided to run beside Steve instead of flying. This made Steve feel a little guilty because he knew that they’d get there much faster if they just flew. Jez felt that no matter what the news was that she should let Steve know that she would literally always be by his side. She loved him so much and she held out hope that he wouldn’t age. Being a genius she knew that he would age because he was part human. All of the Avengers, except Thor, were part human and they would all age. Jez was no part human anymore so she wouldn’t age.
Jez had lay awake at night many times thinking of life without Steve. She knew that if he was to age then he would break up with Jez. He wouldn’t want Jez tied to him if they couldn’t be together. What worried Jez even more was that if all men were to think like that then Jez would never find love. She would be like those Vampires on TV and watch everyone she loved die. Eventually she knew that she would just have to allow herself to be killed. It was a painful thought but it was true.
Peter was flipping from car to car. Peter and Jez often raced through New York just to pass time. Since Jez didn’t have much training anymore it was becoming a regular game. At the start Jez had found it hard to balance hero training and school but she had eventually gotten into the swing of things and she had even become friends with Harry Osborne and Mary Jane.
New York never slept so even at night the group leaped from car roofs to roofs of buildings to get to where they were going as quickly as possible. Steve remained on the ground most of the time with some occasional leaps onto low roofs. Spiderman couldn’t swing fast enough to keep up with BlueJay’s flying so they mostly raced on foot.
“I need to work out more,” Peter said through his pants. He was finding it hard to keep up. He was used to swinging.
“Oh great,” Jez said as police formed a line blocking their path. The police secretly loved the heroes but they were made try and stop them. It was their job.
“What gives you people the right to cause commotion?” one officer said into a megaphone. He didn’t sound at all like he meant it. They rarely did.
The three laughed a little. These police obviously didn’t realise that two of them could fly or maybe they just weren’t actually trying to stop them.
“We’re in a rush,” Jez called back with a sorry smile. Peter shrugged and wrapped a web around Steve. He shot another web at a nearby building and flew into the air over the police’s heads followed closely by Jez. The people just watched in awe as they all landed on their feet and continued running towards Stark Tower.
“Are the Avengers assembling?” one woman called worried. Peter and Jez looked at each other awkwardly. Neither of them were Avengers. Fury wanted them to start their own teen team of heroes. They had talked about it but they didn’t know any other teen heroes. There were whispers of Fury gathering together some but until they heard more they weren’t doing anything about it.
“Should we prepare for another war?” another person asked just as worried. People were so dramatic sometimes. Did they really think that if there was going to be a war that they’d be skipping through New York all happy and dandy.
“No,” Jez yelled back. “There is no war right now. The news we are about to get isn’t serious it’s just exciting. Sorry!”
This seemed to calm the crowds that had gathered to follow them. The police didn’t bother chasing them, knowing that they’d never catch the heroes. Jez wondered if these people had anything better to do with their nights. Jez had things that she’d rather be doing. It’s name? Steve Rogers.
“I’m sorry Steve,” Jez said to Steve. He wrapped an arm around her and squeezed her tight letting her know that he didn’t mind. They were about to find out their future together. Steve was just glad that they had gotten a chance to try things out before they may break up. Steve was prepared to do what was best for Jez and if breaking up was it then that’s what he would do.
“I love you,” Steve replied and they were almost there.
“I’m gonna take a window,” Jez said finding an open one. “They’re easier than stairs.” Jez wrapped her arms around Steve’s waist tightly and lifted him into the air.
“Wait for me!” Peter called back and followed Jez to the nearest open window.
Jez lowered Steve down once they were inside. They were in the living room and Bruce and Tony hadn’t seemed to notice them yet. Steve stood completely still as Jez flew silently behind Bruce and Tony. She hovered over them for a while and then suddenly dropped onto the table in front of them. There was a chorus of frightened sounds from the pair until they realised that it was Jez. Embarrassment crossed their faces for a fraction of a second.
“Did you ever hear of knocking or of doors?” Tony asked returning to what he had been working on. “You should try them sometime. They’re popular among people these days.” Jez knocked on the table sarcastically with a grin.
“Knock knock,” Steve added letting them know that he was there too. Peter fell in the window behind Steve and landed on his back exhausted.
“Nervous?” Bruce asked as they all ignored Spiderman on the floor. Peter had been Spiderman for over a year now but he had never taken his levels. Fury had been trying to convince him to train with them for a long time now but Peter liked being a free man.
“Extremely nervous,” Jez answered Bruce and took Steve’s hand in hers. Bruce nodded with a forced smile. This made Jez even more worried. She was getting a bad vibe from the room.
Tony went to his screens and brought up files on both Jez and Steve. He opened them to reveal facts, quotes, suits, weapons and videos about them.
“We have news on both of you,” Bruce explained. “Who do you want to hear first?”
“Jez,” Steve said without giving Jez a chance to voice her preference. Tony zoomed in on Jezebel’s file.
“That can be good or bad news,” Bruce said joining Tony at the screens. Jez just wanted to know the fact. She didn’t want it dulled down to make it easier. Tony knew this.
“Jez,” he said. “You can’t have children. Ever.” Jez took this better then Steve did. If Jez was going to be nineteen forever she didn’t want children anyway. Steve was frowning but said nothing. Peter decided now would be a good time for a joke.
“Well,” Peter said. “At least you’re not pregnant now because you so weren’t using protection!” This comment earned him a glare from Steve, a chuckle from Jez and shocked looks from Bruce and Tony who clearly didn’t want to know about those details.
Tony laughed as he closed Jezebel’s file and opened up the one labelled ‘Captain America: Steve Rogers’. Bruce looked away from the couple and picked up a vile of blue liquid, twisting it between his fingers.
“Well Capsicle you won’t be cool for a long time with her,” Tony said turning around but he wasn’t smiling. Neither was Bruce.
“What about Steve?” Jez asked just wanting to cut the small talk short and get to the point.
“He’s going to age.”
I hope everyone is liking it and that no one is too disappointed :( Please vote, fan, comment and recommend it! Still open to any ideas where this is going xoxo
