Sophie's POV
*
I take a deep breath and clutch tighter onto Oli's hand, thanking goodness we are finally out of the elevator. I have a great fear for heights and whenever I'm on a rooftop or at the highest stair on a long flight of staircase, I hurry so I won't have to look down from the height or better still I hold tightly onto something.
Obliviously, Oli keeps staring ahead, not noticing my unease. She would have made a comment about it by now had she noticed.
We step into the heavily furnished lobby and the smell of lavender greets us.
Subconsciously, I and Sophie share a look and we both smile, sniffing. I chuckle at the habitual act of ours and we walk to the receptionist. She has a fondness for I and Sophie and is usually all full of smiles whenever we visit.
"Hi." I greet as we approach her.
Apparently she's busy scribbling something into a blank sheet but she stops and looks up, her hands reaching to adjust her eye glasses. Her smile is blinding.
"My my, what a pleasant surprise. Does he know you're visiting?" She gets up and walks around her large dark brown desk to hug Oli first, then surprisingly, she also squishes me into a friendly embrace.
She pulls away.
"No he doesn't. It's a surprise." I chuckle.
"Good morning ma." Oli greets curtly.
"Good morning cutie. Look how tall you are, you're growing into a young beautiful lady already! How are you my dear?" She croons at Oli, her face already parted into two halves with how wide she is smiling.
"I'm fine, thank you." Oli flutters her eyelashes shyly, making me chuckle because though she's acting so cute, she could become a tigress with her mischievous acts or throwing of tantrums at home.
The judging from the faint contours at the edges of her eyes, she seems to be in her middle or late forties but she has a free nature and Demola speaks so fondly of her at home as well. I don't know what he told her about me but even though I have been here just thrice before, she acts as if she's known me for ages.
"That's amazing. Demola has been expecting you..." She wiggles her eyebrows, "How is life treating you by the way?"
"It's been totally amazing, and I'm grateful for each day." I shrug with a genuine smile.
"Right, gratitude in all things is a beautiful feeling." She giggles and rushes back to her desk. After skillfully moving on her lean fingers over the keypads of her laptop for a few seconds, her attention is once again directed at us.
With her five inches heels, she looks a head taller than me and a bit bustier.
She has a round face framed by her hair extension which is in a firm ponytail and her dark blue suit is clung tightly to her hourglass figure.
She motions for us to follow her and we do that, with Oli directing me an all too knowing smile as she converses through eye signals.
She doesn't know I've been here before and I know she is expecting me to look around because she has described this place to me several times.
She watches my reaction when I look around so I know she is expecting me to look around in awe.
The interior designs are nice and same as Oli's drawing which demola has framed in a picture, which is the first thing I see as I step into his office. Demola's face splits into a bright smile as Oli runs to hug him.
He hugs her quickly.
"I missed you daddy!"
"You saw me this morning before I left for work, right?" He chuckles to which she smiles shyly.
"Hi." I wave at him and notice him giving me a once over, his tongue discretely tracing his lower lip. Tingles erupt all over my body and I press my lips to keep myself from smiling like an idiot.
"I believe my presence is no longer required Sir?" His secretary asks him. Her gaze however, is on me.
"Yes, Natalie."
"Alright." She leaves.
"Daddy we bought ice cream for you." Oli says, rubbing her hands on his lap like she is fond of doing. I hope she doesn't mistakenly rub his manhood one day because...I would laugh to my death if that ever happened!
The girl is a special one.
"You didn't buy for yourselves?" Demola asks her with raised brows.
"We did. It's for the three of us. As one big family." She throws her arms in the air to give him a pose and a wink.
Demola's eyes meet mine and I'm quick to look away.
His daughter never fails to surprise me with her words and her cute way of thinking. She's just a kid and to her, everything is easy and people dating should eventually get married. She even once asked me if I like babies and if I'll be giving her dad a baby and I just told her I might, and might not.
"You ate?" He asks me, his tone holding a bit of irritation and I know it's because I'm not looking at him and I've not kissed him since I stepped into his office. He loves it whenever I do PDA bit I'm usually shy to do so in Oli's presence.
"Sure. What did you expect?" I sass.
"Who do we have here?" Someone asks from the entrance, shutting the door. It's Mr Abdul, Demola's friend.
"Uncle Abdul." Oli hugs him by the waist before running back to her dad as if he'll make an escape without her if she doesn't hold on tightly to him.
I get up to shake him but he pulls me into a side hug, surprising me. The gesture spreads warmth into my heart.
"How are we doing?" He demands.
Giggling, I return the hug before he pulls away.
He asks me that whenever he visits the house and he has never treated me like the nanny I introduced myself to him as.
"We are good."
"I can see how well we are taking care of my friend." He says with a knowing smile.
"What do you want?" Demola demands with a glower.
Oli observes her dad's expression while I try not to giggle. "Daddy, are you angry at uncle AB?"
His gaze softens as he looks at her. "No baby. Daddy isn't angry at uncle AB." he spits the abbreviated name maliciously.
"Alright. Let's go see my friend in my office and I will take you to the coffee shop that's beside the company."
He reaches his hand out to Oli who grabs it while shifting on her converse boots.
About to leave, she turns around and runs to her dad, pulling his ear down to whisper in it. Demola chuckles and nods.
"Really?" She asks with her big brown eyes.
"Yes baby. You can go with your uncle AB." He whispers back but I hear it.
"Don't finish my ice cream before I get back." She says with a stern expression.
"I won't." He assures.
With a mischievous wink my way, Oli takes her uncle's hand and allows him lead her out.
