Chapter 1

New Home

"Shit!" I squealed as I used all my power to keep the door locked. Strange people banged and threw themselves at the door. I was trapped in a closet inside a clothes store. I struggled to keep the door shut with one hand. My other hand was wrapped around a match which had a small orange flame crackling at the end. I could feel my face heat up and my hair was matted down with warm sweat. "GO AWAY YOU MESSED UP PEOPLE!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. What the heck is going on? The flame unleashed puffs of silver smoke. I coughed loudly while I waved my hand infront of my face to wipe out the misty fog. Dirty fingers trailed and poked through the crack in the door. Groans and moans escaped their throats. If I gave up, I would of been eaten alive. My palms got sweaty and red. I struggled to get a grip. My fingers slipped off the wooden lock and I closed my eyes tightly. Prepared to die. 1...2...3... *PTING PTING PTING!!* Gun shots were heard and the groans of the mysterious people suddenly disappeared. The door flew open and a river of tears rolled down my face as I saw the dead bodies piled on the floor. A pool of blood surrounded them and flesh peeled off their bones. I looked up and a tall, Chinese looking man stood there in silence. As soon as he laid eyes on me, his smile dropped and he swiftly walked over to me. "Hey... No... Don't cry... I'm Glenn." He gestured his arm out. I could fell my face get red as I wiped my tears away. I grabbed his hand and firmly shook it. "I'm... Ray..." I struggled to speak. "Well... Ray... Follow me." He turned his back and I didn't hesitate to follow him. "What... What are these things?" I asked suspiciously as I jerked my head towards a bunch of infected people. "No one really knows. They're dead. We call them Walkers." He explained as he put quotation marks on the word "Walkers." I nodded and bite my lip. "Who is we?" I asked. I had a habit of asking questions but he didn't seem bothered. "Me and my survival group." He spoke those words with pride and confidence. "You have a group?!" I squealed in surprise. He nodded. A few walkers trudged in our direction. Blood pulses out of their empty eye sockets. I backed away. "Aren't you gonna kill em?" I asked in a panicked whisper. Glenn shook his head. "Nah. Waste of a bullet." I completely understood and I didn't hesitate to avoid them. We swiftly walked out of the corridor and entered the bright day light. I squinted. Glenn jerked his head up to a vehicle. We opened the doors of a silver Jeep and hopped inside. "Where... Where are we going?" I asked confusingly. Glenn gave me a smirk. "Wait and see." I gulped in surprise. Why wouldn't he tell me? Is he hiding something? No. I completely trusted him. He roared the car to life and drove down the smooth road. Glenn was fun to be around. We blared out jazz music the whole way. He was a very chatty person so the drive want awkward. We past tall grass shoots and blooming lavender fields. It was very pretty. The Jeep halted to a stop and we leaped out. Tall bricked towers stood still. Wired fences surrounded the buildings. Glenn opened the gate and darted his chocolate brown eyes at me. "Welcome to the prison."
