Chapter 3

A Long Night

Me and Rick became friends very easily. He was fun to be around and he understood me. "Have you got... Family?" I asked. As soon as I spoke those words Ricks face dropped in depression. I regretted asking that question. He finally looked up and opened his mouth. "My wife died while giving birth to my son - Carl." I was speechless. "Oh.... Ugh... I'm sorry." Rick gently smiled, which lifted my spirits. "Where is Carl?" I asked. Rick bite his lip. "He was bite. I had to shoot him..." Oh God. Why couldn't I just keep my mouth shut?! I'm such a jerk. Rick studied what I was wearing. Heat flushed over my face. "You haven't got a weapon?" He asked in his dreamy voice. I opened my denim pocket and pulled out a blunt knife. He nodded and pulled out a colt python. "Have mine." He exclaimed as he put it in my hand. "No.... I.... I can't." I disagreed. He placed his hand on top of mine. "Don't worry. You can have it. I have one." He chewed my tongue and eventually nodded. My mouth opened and I unleashed a huge yawn. "Someone's tired." Rick mumbled as he giggled. I looked t my watch. It was 2am and I was dead sleepy. "Yeah. Umm.... I'm going to bed now.... Thank you Rick." I tuned my back and started to walk through the gloomy darkness. I felt hands wrap around my waist. "I'm tired aswell." It was Rick. I smiled brightly as he lead me up the tower. I entered my small room. I turned around and saw Rick stand by the door. "Goodnight Ray." I gently smiled and hopped into bed. I stared at the ceiling and thought about Rick. I was already making up cute names for him: Ricky, Rickster.... How could I think like that? He just lost his wife and son for Christ sake! How could I be so selfish?! I flashed him out of my memory and shit my eyes. Trying to count sheep.
