Bystander

Chapter Eleven

Nothing could stop me. Not Henry, not my fractured wrist, not the murderer, nothing. I got up and ran to them. Henry got up and started following me. He ran passed me and tackled the murderer. He tried to pin the murderer down but during the struggle they stabbed his arm, threw him off, and ran away.
"Henry!" I yelled as I ran to him. "Are you alright?"
"Lana!" I screamed.
I saw Lana laying on the hard ground, a stab wound in her stomach. I called the police and the paramedics. The paramedics took Lana and Henry to the hospital. The police took me there in one of the cars to question me since I was the only unhurt person.
So far, the secret investigation of the murderer was getting me and Henry nowhere. While one of the officers were calling my mom I started thinking of how mad she would be that I snuck out. But maybe she would be proud of me for saving Lana.
"You're mother said she will be waiting at the hospital," the passenger said as he looked in his rear-view mirror at me.

I walked into the hospital with both officers behind me. Mom got up from the chair she was sitting in as soon as she saw us. She walked quickly to me and gave me a big hug.
"Julia, just what did you think you were doing?"
"I uh...."
"Never mind just explain later."
The doctor that was taking care of Lana and the doctor that was taking care Henry walked to us in unison. Henry's parents ran up to Dr. Gonzalez while Lanas's parents ran up to Dr. Rose. They bombarded each doctor with questions. I looked at my mom with eyes that said "Can I go ask them questions?" She looked at me and shook her head. I slumped back in my chair. Dr. Rose walked over to us. He shook Mom's hand then shook mine. "Hello, I'm Doctor Rose." He told us. "You both can go home and I'll have the hospital call you when you can come visit Lana and Henry."
Mom nodded her head, stood up and started walking to the exit. I did the same and followed her. Once we got in the car Mom just sat there for a minute.
"Julia West just what did you think you were doing?!?"
"If I wouldn't have been there Lana would've died!"
"That doesn't explain what you were doing there!"
"I wanted to find out who killed Madyson!"
"Whatever you say."
"I swear it's true!"
"Whether it's true or not you're grounded."
"For how long?"
"Until you get your cast off. I know it'll take a while as you're still in your sling but it will be safer for you."

A/N: Dr. Rose was made in memory of Mr. Rose. He was a teacher that was originally supposed to be teaching one of the 6th grade classes for the Fort Loramie class of 2023 but he got offered a job as a principal for another school. He was heading home one day after work close to the end of March and he got into a car crash. I didn't know him but many of my classmates did and some are very upset from this so I thought I would make a character dedicated to him. Sorry it took forever for me to publish this chapter.
