(Emmett Point Of View)
I dragged my sorry self loathing ass through the rain that had started drizzling all the way back to the branch feeling positively drained. I pushed through the entrance doors and shook the rain from the jacket, Lux was already standing in the foyer waiting for me.
"You can't seriously be going on a job, it's been years" She said running to keep up with me as I headed towards the equipment room, she was already struggling because of the heels she had on.
"Samson gave me the order, if I don't get to the briefing room in an hour. I will get punished by the High Council of the Lord himself this time" I muttered shoved my way into the equipment room, the looks I received from some of the mercenaries standing in the locker room were priceless.
"Doesn't the minder have anything to say about this?" She asked sitting down on the bench in front of the lockers.
"The minder can go to hell." I snapped yanking off the jacket and threw it into the locker rummaging through to find my old black cargo jacket, let's just hope that it still fits.
"You spent the night at his house, what happened?" Lux whimpered sitting forward on the bench.
"You wanna know?! This happened!" I yelled pulling my shirt over my head and turning my back to her to show the tattoo.
"Oh god.." She trailed off inhaling loudly rising to her feet to touch the tattoo.
"Know any good tattoo removalists?" I laughed bitterly pulling on a new black tee shirt and fixed the jacket on over it struggling out of my skinny jeans for my cargo pants.
"Emmett. This isn't funny, it's dangerous to abandon your partner" She frowned crossing her arms in annoyance.
"It wasn't me, it was him." I retorted tugging on my yugake and tying the strap around my wrist.
"Why do you need the weird glove?" She narrowed her eyes pointing at my yugake.
"Becaause it is easier to pull the string to shoot with it. You wouldn't understand" I scoffed unhooking my bow from its place in the locker.
"Yeah I don't to be honest, be careful Emmie. I don't want to be hiking around the forest looking for your dead body" She sighed clipping my quiver belt around my waist.
"I'll be fine. It'll be easy" I nudged her with my shoulder and tied up my combat boots before breaking into a stride for the door.
"You said that last time and you were a prisoner!" She sqeauked trotting after me into the hallways.
"That's because I was used as a decoy" I slotted my bow into its holster across my back as I stopped at the conference room door. "I'm busy Lux, I'll come back in one piece" I smiled pushing open the door and stepping inside the conference room, Vincent and Samson were standing around the table with a few other council members.
"Emmett, it's good to see that you're well" One of the council members nodded from his spot at the table.
"We've decided that we want to put you back into the field, there isn't many archers as good as you and Niklaus anymore and we dont have power over Klaus anymore. Your personal assistant job has been given to someone else" Samson scrunched his nose up as if he was talking to a hobo of some sort.
"May I ask who?" I asked leaning back against the door impatiently.
"Lux has taken the job, it seems that she has been chosen to be his mate also. It would only seem fitting that she be by his side" Samson grunted looking down at his watch, that there was the knife right through my back. I had never felt so utterly gutted in my entire life, I had been played and used.
