Part 4
Elliot: Air
"What a bea-u-ti-ful view." Mom said as she always did each night.
"mmhmm!" I hummed excitedly. It was beautiful. No Mount Kenzle but a beautiful view none the less. "how many people do you think are camping down there?" I asked as I went over to the ledge and used the tree to support myself to look down a bit.
"Elliot be careful!" Mom cried as she pulled me back from the ledge by the collar of my jacket.
"I am!" I said defensively.
She just let out a sigh. "Elliot we should head to bed so we can get a move on bright and early.
I let out a little groan. "Ok. Ok. I wanna stay and watch the view for a little longer though... Please?" I begged and gave my mom big puppy dog eyes.
She sighed – she does it a lot – and nodded. "Just be in bed in fifteen minutes. If you aren't next trip you'll stay at the base practicing math."
I let out another groan, but both of us ended up laughing. We said our good nights and my mom got ready to sleep. I cautiously got back to my position to look over the edge. It was one of my favorite things to do when climbing.
Maybe that would change though. A large boom came and my footing slipped due to the shake of the earth. I literally slipped off the edge of the mountain. I let out a scream and luckily grabbed something to hold my weight. I think it was a root and at that moment I didn't care. My Mom was already at the edge of the cliff looking down at me.
"Elliot hold on ok sweetie!" fear struck her voice. "Next time you'd listen to me." There might not be a next time. I kicked and swung my legs trying to swing over enough to grab the rocks instead of the thing I was already holding onto. Another boom banged out though and my grip loosened because I was reaching out to the wall.
"MOOOM!" I cried out in panic. I couldn't die this way. I looked up to see my mom staring out. Her face was lit up by what seemed like christmas lights. I turned to look out and I saw two huge pillars of light. A yellow one and a red one. Then a blue one burst up and caused another boom.
"MOM!" I screamed as my grip loosened. Mom snapped out of the fear and began to work on tying a rope to the tree. Then it happened. A green pillar only a few miles away. It caused the whole mountain to shake and my mother fell backwards. As for me and the tree...
We began to fall. I screamed. Anyone would. I was only 17 though. I didn't want to die. I wanted to graduate high school. I fell and fell for what seemed like forever. I was falling backwards and I just wanted it over with. I closed my eyes for a second to open then back up to see a pendent falling with me. I reached my hand up and grabbed it. I don't know what possessed me too but I did.
Suddenly I became one of those pillars of light. My pillar was white. It was blinding. Being surrounded by that light could only be described as a cold wind being blown through you. It was like a wind being blown through your soul not just your skin.
I felt like I was flying though. I felt weightless. Maybe even more than weightless. My feet were placed on the ground at the base of the mountain. When I opened my eyes I looked around. The place I had fallen from had seemed so far away. I then looked down for injury. None. But I was dressed differently. No big jacket or my backpack; just a skin tight bright white body suit. Was I like a superhero now? Fall of a cliff boy!
. . .
I'll work on it. I could sense something calling me. I looked back up to see that the yellow pillar was the only one left. A call for help? That felt right. I then saw a green glow in the trees. Maybe they had the same goal. Maybe they were my teammate. The only way to find out was to go to that yellow light.
