Regina

I couldn't help but feel the sting of envy as I watched my darker half clutch the hospital railings and moan in discomfort. Her brace face was on and I knew it was her mask to block out the absolute terror she was feeling. Bubbles of annoyance clouded my chest as the insolent doctor broke down the bottom half of the table and announced that it was the moment that she had been waiting for, the home stretch, a couple of pushes to finish out the long nine months that all of us had endured. My stomach twisted at the thought of this situation, and I could feel my brain clouding of all it's reason as I tried to comprehend how this was even capable, nevertheless I was here in this crowded, loud, and tense delivery suite because her idiotic husband thought it would be a clever idea to be trapped on the Jolly Roger, lending a hand to the useless pirate who begged for his help, and also to be able to get away from the constant noise and responsibility of the twins that Emma had bore him last year. The poor thief barely knew how to use a cell phone, but he clearly also didn't know that when it rang multiple times, it meant there was an emergency.

The car ride had been a long and silent one, mostly because I could not bear to watch my other half grimace quietly in pain, the pain that I longed to feel, with the man I loved. She had been polite and kept it under control, which only aggravated me more, if she had been screaming and writhing in pain, I would be able to look past the situation and focus on something else, but she knew, she understood what this felt like, and she remained composed.

They had strapped an oxygen mask to her face and scooted the paper gown up, her gaudy outfit now replaced with simple green material that tied around her neck, her long tresses released from their normal updos and gathered into a knot on the top of her head.

Her bottom half was completely exposed, and I watched as even breathing became painful for her, each inhale causing the various muscles in her stomach to twist and knot.

"I can wait in the lobby if you want, for some privacy." I muttered, trying to shuffle out without her noticing, but I then heard a frantic shuffle coming from the bed.

"No!" She shouted, catching me off guard, along with the entire room. "I mean, you can stay, I mean you have an exact replica of everything going on down there." She groaned, her voice now straining as she attempted a chuckle.

I nodded and scooted back into the room, taking a spot at her side before offering a trying smile, but my chest just constricted as I watched Whale strap on some gloves and a mask, placing her feet into the holders before nodding in her direction.

"When you feel the urge to, go ahead and push for ten seconds, then breathe." He coached, I watched her swallow and shoot one last glance at the door and nod back, the worry and terror now shining through before she put her game face back on. "Okay. Mmm haaaah." She groaned, squeezing her eyes shut before gripping the railings to attempt her first push. I began to chew on my lip as I watched her face scrunch up in pain, the vein in her forehead now bulging from all the effort as the nurse kindly held her knee back and counted. My heart began to sink as I realized that this moment would never be an option to me, my womb may have been restored, but it would never be filled by the man that I loved with my whole soul.

"Ah!" She cried out, crashing her head back onto her pillow that I had snatched from my bedroom while rushing out, not realizing that it was the one I always kept close to me while I slumbered, the one that he had complained was too soft, but that he had grown quite fond of. The smell of pine and mint now covered it, and I watched as her perspiring neck slowly stole his genuine scent away, and replaced it with the spicy and sweet scent of cinnamon.

"Ms. Mills!" The doctor finally snapped, causing me to break from my daydream and jump at his sharpness. "Yes, I'm sorry." I apologized, watching him acknowledge my apology with a nod.
