Robin

My lungs ached as I raced down Main Street, my legs feeling like lead as I tried to force myself towards the scene of the crime. Someone had mentioned that my wife had been killed, and I felt as if I would die at any moment.

I rounded the corner of the street and slowed as I neared the large mass of people herded behind the wooden barricades.

I angrily shoved my way through, my heart pounding as I watched the coroner zip the body bag up. People began staring as I felt my knees slam into the pavement, the world spinning a mile a minute.

What was I going to tell Henry? He would be crushed, completely ruined if he found out that he had to lose another parent to the horrid grips of magic. We had fought hard, but when my wife suggested we split up, I knew in my gut that it was a bad idea.

A painful scream escaped my lips, and the crowd parted, their eyes settling on my trembling frame. My Queen was no longer in my life, I was going to have to figure out a way to continue living my life without her. Roland was just getting used to having a mother, and it broke me completely to think of my son losing another one at such a young age.

"Sir? Can we help- oh Robin." Emma exhaled, squatting so she was eye level with my swollen, bloodshot ones.

"I'm sorry, I had no idea you two were so close, sorry this is hitting you so hard." Emma almost questioned, making me look up at her with exasperation and almost disgust.

"We were married! We made a family together!" I snapped, watching as she held her arms out defensively in my direction. "You're right, I'm so sorry, I probably wasn't thinking." She apologized, but I just grumbled in response and stood, trying to steady myself with my spinning head.

"What hospital are they taking her to?" I asked tiredly, watching as Emma opened the folder, repeating the hospital name back to me.

"Robin, I really am sorry." She called out, making me scoff and turn my back towards the blonde Savior. "Me too." I grumbled, picking up speed to jog over to the hospital.

...

I angrily slammed my hands on the receptionist's desk, infuriated that they had lost Regina's body so easily and quickly.

"What seems to be the problem?" A familiar voice questioned, making me swing around, coming face to face with Regina, standing healthy as a horse.

Her pale skin was flushed from the cold temperature outside, her long locks cascading down her shoulders. Her black leather jacket was tightly zipped, paired with her dark wash jeans.

"Oh my god." I whispered, watching her raise a confused eyebrow at me, but I ignored it and nearly tackled her with a hug, kissing her profusely as I wept.

"I thought you were dead." I sobbed, making her scoff in exasperation and pull away, a smirk planted on her lips.

"Umm no, we fought in the battle, then I rushed home because Roland had a fever and Henry didn't have any cold medicine to give him." She explained, the way she spoke about our children so naturally made me want to pass out from emotion.

"Someone said my wife died, is that true?" I now questioned, watching as she pursed her lips, linking her hands into mine.

"Right, there's someone you need to see." She said in a solemn tone, leading me back towards the morgue.

My stomach twisted in knots as she unlinked our fingers and approached the front desk to the morgue wing. I watched as she whispered to the receptionist, conversing quietly before she pressed the button, opening the swinging, automatic doors.

"Come on." She urged, leading me down the hall, meeting up with the coroner who debriefed her, motioning us towards a window.

"We just need you to make an identification." The tall woman explained, knocking on the window for the doctor on the other side to pull the blinds.

My stomach dropped as Marian's body was revealed, only a sheet covering her ashen, dead body. "Oh my god." I whimpered, feeling Regina grip my hand tightly.

"Are you okay?" She whispered, making them shut the blinds and excuse themselves to give us some privacy.

"I'm- I'm better than I thought I'd be." I admitted, the weight lifting off my chest like an elephant. "What are you talking about?" She asked gently, the same way she comforted the boys after something was bothering them.

"I thought it was you. I thought you were dead, and I just couldn't function with the thought of you being gone forever. I love you more than my own life, and if you died, I don't think I'd be able to live without you." I admitted, making her eyes shine with tears.

"I'm sorry that you got so upset, I know how hard it was to cope when you died, so I know that feeling. But I'm not going anywhere, you don't have to worry about me going anywhere." She vowed, pressing a kiss on my lips, but I leaned away and carefully cupped her face.

"You said you'd do anything for us, but please don't ever do anything that'll put yourself in danger, please." I begged, but she just scoffed and chuckled at me, taking my hand into hers.

"Robin, as terrible as it is to lose each other, we cannot live like this. We just have to take each day at a time, but listen, I am a mother to two beautiful boys that I will gladly and willingly give my life for, but I hope that it will never come to that, but if it does, I will give my life for my family. But I believe that we will have a very long and happy life together.

"Now, stop worrying about it, let's go home and have dinner with our children." She suggested, kissing me softly before leading me out of the dreary hospital.

"I love you." I whispered, thanking my lucky stars that she was still here with me, standing by my side. We'd grow old together, watch our sons get married, perhaps have more children, watch our kids become parents, so many things to look forward to, and so many things to live for.
