Regina
I gasped as I awoke in a tiny hospital bed, the orange hue burning my eyes as I blinked away the fog from my brain. The normally busy hospital was eerily silent, and the darkness outside told me that I was not in the normal hospital that my family practically lived in due to all the danger in town.
I kicked the covers back and felt my legs ache as I struggled to stand. My mind went blank as I tried to recall what had happened leading up to this moment, and I felt myself getting more and more frustrated with myself.
"Milady?" A familiar voice called, one that I had been yearning to hear for what felt like an eternity. However my skin automatically went ice cold as I realized why I could hear this voice so clearly.
"Robin?" I called out weakly, dragging my aching legs out of my hospital room where my soulmate was standing with a mischievous smirk, leaning against the wall.
"My love." He exhaled, but I remained carefully by the door, skeptical of what was going on. "Did I die?" I asked nervously, not wanting to hear his answer. "No, you aren't technically dead, but you are giving your family quite the scare right now." He explained, leading me to a new corridor, this one bustling with panic and shouts, coming from a specific room.
"Congratulations, you're a mommy again." He winked, making me avert my eyes from the sounds of chaos and stare at him in confusion. "We have a beautiful little girl, I got to spend some lovely time with her over here until it was time for her to go and be with you." He explained with a twinkle in his eye.
"Wha- I was pregnant?" I cried in disbelief, my hands dropping to my perfectly flat stomach, still feeling as hollow as ever. "You are probably in shock right now, it should come back to you in a little bit. Yes, you were pregnant, found out right after I passed, and you just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. But you're bleeding out right now, they're going to take you into emergency surgery soon." He explained, walking me into the room, my stomach dropping as I stared at an ashen, frail copy of myself limp on the bed. Blood was pooled at my waist and ankles, soaking the bed and floor.
I could hear a squealing baby that was hastily detached from me by a careless nurse. They forcefully began to transfuse, nurses shaking and jostling me to try and wake me, but I remained still as a corpse.
"I look horrible." I automatically commented, making Robin chuckle and move a piece of hair behind my ear with a scoff. "No, just a bit tired." He winked, leading me out of the room to let the doctors work.
"The baby, is she alone?" I demanded, making Robin shake his head while raising his eyebrow at me.
"Do you honestly believe that Snow would leave you or the baby alone throughout any of this?" He sassed, pointing to my terrified step daughter who remained at my bed side, her hand clasped in mine, just as she had probably been when I delivered that baby. "David is watching the little one in the nursery." Robin whispered, taking my hand to lead me out of the wing, the room morphing into my mansion.
"Where am I? Am I dying?" I asked once more, making Robin sit me on the sofa, the room blurring for a moment.
"You're not dying and you're not living either. You're trapped in between both lives right now. We are here because you want to be here, this is your choice whether you live and go back, or die and stay here with me." He explained, my mind nearly exploding from the morbid concept.
"Of course I want to live." I said in a reluctant tone, my eyes now falling on his, my craving for him multiplying as I began to think about our time on earth, and how it was cut so very short.
