"Hey," she worriedly said. Looking at a boy who sat with his head on his hands looking up at the sky. He turned around wiping his eyes with his hands, "Oh I uhh yeah I just was looking at the stars?" He stuttered, ending his response like a question."The stars?" She wondered. "Uhh can i look at the stars with you?" She asked. She wanted to talk to him. She wanted to know that he was alright.
He nodded scooting to make room for her on the bleachers. She sat and turned her body so she was facing him, "I hope i'm not intruding. I just don't want you to be here alone." She stammered.
He shook his head and smiled to himself then turned to face her. "I'm Shawn," he said reaching out his hand. She shook it. "I'm Paige." She met his eyes and smiled. She looked up at the sky, not knowing what she should say. "They're beautiful, the stars."
He nodded, "They are." They sat for a couple seconds in awkward silence. "So, Paige why are you here?" He asked with pure curiosity.
"Ohh I uhh...needed to take a break." She admitted, fidgeting with the bottom of her jacket.
"Same," he agreed, sighing.
"I needed to take a break from my family," She huffed, looking up to the sky.
"Oh, I needed to take a break from, myself I guess..." He muttered.
"So, you came here...to be alone?" She curiously asked.
"I'm not alone I have the stars... I have someone who's sitting next to me." He replied not thinking before he spoke.
"Yeah, but when you came here you didn't know I was gonna come and sit with you," She said once more with questioning eyes, "Or did you?" She asked laughing, breaking the silence of the night air. Shawn tilted his head, looking at this girl who was so full of life and light, who threw her head back in pure laughter. A smile broke across his face, he raised his eyebrows, "Are you that funny?" He chuckled looking at her.
"It's late Shawn and I'm tired, anything is funny at this point." She pointed out, still suppressing a smile.
This time Shawn did the laughing, "I just met you and were just here laughing in the middle of the night, on a Friday."
Paige turned her head, lifted an eyebrow and said, "What a world we live in, what a world." Shawn sat for a moment looking at this girl.
"Paige, do you wan't to get froyo with me?" Shawn blurted, not only surprising Paige, but also surprising himself.
"I don't even know your last name and you could be a serial killer for all I know." She mused.
"It's Mendes and I swear i'm not," He huffed.
"Shawn Mendes, that is exactly what a serial killer would say, but with me being a rather curious and nonjudgmental person i'm gonna go with yes." She stated, hoping she wouldn't later regret it.
"Wait, really?!" He stood up getting excited.
"Two things, number one you gotta chill were going to froyo not our wedding, number two, you are hella tall." She crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows whilst standing up.
He raised his own eyebrows when she said "wedding" and huffed, "Well, your 'hella' short," when she mentioned his height.
"'Well Shawn I hope you brought a car cause I don't think walking would be a good idea." She matter of factly said.
"Don't worry I do." He stated smiling.
"And a drivers licenses?" She inquired.
"Yes, don't be a worry wart," He chuckled, lightly nudging her.
"Hey, I'm not taking my chances," She laughed putting her arms up in surrender.
And with that Shawn and Paige walked to his car side by side, not truly knowing how much this day would change their live's... for the better.
