Chapter 3: The Discovery

"Mom..." I whispered as I began to cry.

"Listen to me. Save yourself, people would be after you for the rest of your life. They want you."

"What do you mean?"

"You hold the power to travel into people's minds. They want to kill you and take everything from you. Killing me was only a small part of what will happen," my mom struggled to say.

I shed a tear on her face and something happened. Memories flew past me and I can hear her thoughts and see her memories. A memory zoomed in and it was this boy.

He had oak brown hair with honey brown eyes and olive skin. He was very young and was looking through the room when the doctor handed the baby to my mother. This was the day of my birth. It was like his eyes were looking at me in my mom's mind. It was like he knew I was there, was he one of me? The doctor gave me to my mom and walked out of the room, my mind followed the doctor outside.

"Ian, over here."

Ian, that's his name.

"Yeah."

"That girl will be in a lot of danger as she grows older. She is the 9th. Once she finds out about her power we need to get to her immediately. Otherwise we will lose her, forever."

"But, I can't help. I'm the 8th, I am not as powerful as her. Our group needs to have someone die for another one to be picked. No one died, she is special and has unlimited power." Ian confessed.

"Yes, but you are the only one who can work with her. If your powers are put together, you will be unstoppable. The 8th is the only one who can use their powers to protect her from the Black Diamonds. You are the only one that can help her. Never forget this, when you use your powers together, you two can fight any battle. Together you two have unlimited abilities."

Protect me? Black Diamonds? Who is this kid? The 8th, is there more of them?

So many thoughts raced through my mind as I left my mother's mind. I exited her mind to hear her last words.

"Save... us..."

Then she died right there in my arms for good.

I leaned over her and cried. She was the only family I had left, now I have nowhere to live or go, I am on my own. Picking my mom up and I ran out of the burning building.

Placing my mom on the ground, the ambulance and the emergency vehicles were there and took my mom even though they couldn't save her. I was put in a separate truck and brought to the hospital for my burns and wounds where Alec was waiting for me, pacing around the room.

He saw me coming in on the stretcher and followed me into my room.

"Alec, I am okay you can go home."

"I am not going home, you are wounded and you have no mother."

"Yeah thanks for rubbing it in. That makes me feel so great."

"At least you are not the only one." Alec replied.

"Well, I am the only one that's homeless and broke. So, I have to pack my things and sell the house."

"You can live with my family. That is until you get back on your feet."

"I can't do that to you. You guys have so much to worry about right now and I would be another worry."

"I insist, we will be fine. Just rest and we will get your stuff for you."

The next day came and I was let out of the hospital. They said it was a miracle because I was completely healed in less than a day, yet I was the only one that knew it was from my power. I headed to my house to grab the rest of my things before the new owners of the house came in.

I took all of my family photos and belongings and started walking to Alec's house. I will live with him, but he cannot know about my power. He has so much to worry about and this could put him in danger and I cannot risk it. I only can risk my own life. For now, this is just my secret, for me only. I got to his house with my luggage and Alec was waiting for me outside.

"Hey, Alec. Thank you again for letting me stay here."

"It was no problem we had an extra room anyways."

We walked into the house and Alec showed me to my room. It was designed just like my old room. With the orangy- brown walls, the brown wooden desk on the right hand side of my room, the lamp above my bed on the shelf, and the twin bed with the quilt that my mom made for me when I was a child.

"Alec, you did this for me?"

"Well, I thought you would like a reminder of home, so I brought the home to you."

I started to tear up, my home was with me. I sat on the bed and Alec sat next to me. He rubbed my back and we sat there in silence. That was until Alec's siblings ran in. He has two siblings, Max and Rosy, they are twins. Rosy has dirty blonde hair and Max has dark brown hair and they both have dark brown eyes, but still having the pale skin like Alec. They were about the age of 8, much younger than us and very excited that I would be living with them. At least I have younger siblings now instead of being all alone.

"Aleah!" Max and Rosy screamed.

"Hey guys!"

"Do you want to play with us downstairs?"

"Guys, please leave her alone right now." Alec sighed.

"It's okay Alec. Let's go downstairs."

Helping me up and we walked downstairs. I still was confused about what happened, but there is no way I can tell Alec, just for the sake of their lives. Rosy was pulling out a board game and we started to play it.

The way Max and Rosy played together reminded me much of when Alec and I played together. It was like I can see myself in Rosy's eyes. I can see myself a little too much. Suddenly, I passed out right in front of everyone, crashing onto the board game. My body started traveling into Rosy's and I found something remarkable.
