She refused his proposal and fled to seek the help of Atlas, the Titan god who supported the sky on his shoulders. The dolphin-god Delphin eventually tracked her down and persuaded her to return to wed the sea-king. She unwillingly agreed to marry Poseidon and later gave birth to Triton, Kymopoleia, Benthesikyme, and Rhode (the future wife of Helios). She was also the mother of all sea creatures. Amphitrite was often depicted riding beside her husband in a chariot drawn by fish-tailed horses called hippokampoi. Her hair is usually secured with a fishing net and her head decorated with crab claws.
