Where Did They Come From?

Jakie's POV

"Please, you've poked me at least 200 times. Stop it." I grumped at the medic. He scowled and poked me again. It was getting annoying. No wonder my muscle wasn't healing! "Look. I'll be better if you stop poking me." I growled as I wrenched my arm out of his reach. He scowled again and proceeded to check my blood pressure. On my other arm, gratefully.

I had been in the hospital for six hours while my wounds healed. The doctor had puts drugs in them to keep them from healing too fast while he cleaned them out and checked for infection. Six hours of being prodded and needled probably wouldn't help anyone. I'm glad I never became a doctor, at any rate.

I had a fair number of bandages, enough so I looked like a cured zombie. A look I did not want to repeat. Who would? Then, the list of fatalities came. I scanned down it for a particular someone. No, not mate...Not mate...Missy prayed. I agreed wholeheartedly. At this point in time, I did not want to lose another mate.

I finished the list. Oliver wasn't dead. I breathed a sigh of relief. That left the big question. Where had they come from? It was too strategic to be spontaneous. This was obviously planned. While I mused, the Were news came in. I flicked through it while I was resting. Then, an article caught my eye. It involved my f*cked up family, no surprise, but seemed interesting, so I read.

Members of a local coven, Serevenia, have taken young Layla and Zoe Brunick as hostages in exchange for older sister and wanted murderer, Jakie Victor. Many agree that the fourteen murders Jakie performed were self defense. But many do not. The vampires have teamed up with Hunters and have attacked the Royal Castle. Casualty numbers have not been released to the press, although they may be soon.

Awfully short. I thought to myself. Then I did a double take. My sisters? Kidnapped? What is with my sisters and being kidnapped? First Lacey, and now Layla and Zoe. But it did answer questions. This was a strategic assault. There has been bad blood between Silver Moon and The Servenia coven for years, so this was prime for the asking. Then, rationality came back to me.

How would I get my sisters back? I can't exactly march in there by myself. Vampires have been known to sometimes be stronger than Wolves. An angry She-Wolf could top anyone in a fight, though. Still, the Hunters. I heard they had recently developed a new strain of silver and wolfsbane to mix together. The result was a powerful drug. It might even be able to take me down.

Then, the lights went out. People screamed as sounds of struggling and hissing were heard. I felt cold, clammy hands grab my wrists and I barked out of habit. "Not that one. Not yet, anyway." A creepy voice muttered. The hands let go and I started to rub feeling back into my wrist. The power outage didn't last long and the lights were back on within 5 minutes.

A new scent was present in the room. Vampire. I nervously fiddled with my fingers. The ones the vampire had been close to grasping. The lists of the missing were about to come around, obviously being updated. It still scared me, to think of my innocent sisters in the creepy hands of filthy vampires. Heck, it would probably freak any wolf out. I managed to stay relatively calm until the lists came out. I skimmed down the list.

The name I found made my blood run absolutely icy cold. I felt my face whiten and my hands began to shake out of nervousness.  I wanted to cry and to kill at the same time. I thought it would be safe. In a hospital for the Moon Goddess's sake! But karma seems to hate me for a bizarre reason, and has come back to get me for something. I looked at the fancy writing again.

Oliver Brock Langrove, Mate of Jakie Victor.
