"How about the Ouija board?" I asked, slamming open the door to Felix's room. He stopped reading his magazine and connected eyes with me annoyed.

"What? Did I interrupt your man time?" I teased, bending over slightly. He rolled his eyes and sat up from his laying down position on his bed.

"It's called a cologne ad, genius. I really like those things you scratch and get to smell," he responded as he threw the paper to the side.

Awaiting for my explanation, he added, "and what do you mean Ouija board?"

I sat beside him on the bed, resting my arm on his shoulder. "I mean, yesterday you were talking about the paranormal? I asked you to prove it, and I decided how!"

Felix instantly stood up, facing the doorway.

"Uh yeah, no."

I crooked an eyebrow but continued to sit.
"Well that was blatant," I said.

"I am not doing the Ouija board, Jack. Have you seen those videos and articles about people that have done that thing?" His voice gave off a negative tone, which began to shift my mood into agitation.

"That's fine. I'm doing it with Mark, anyway. He isn't such a god damn buzz kill all the time," I argued, "I was just offering it to you if you wanted to join your bros. Guess not."

Felix maturely rested his hands on his hips, saying, "Mark? Did he even agree to it?"

"I mean, I won our bet so I decide what he does. And for his challenge, he's gonna do the Ouija board with me," I declared without any further doubt, standing up and reaching for the door behind Felix.

He stood in my way right as I grabbed the handle, his features now worried as I've ever seen them due to his solid-rock expression everyday.

"Jack," he quietly said, "So you didn't tell Mark about this at all?" I shook my head quickly, trying to get aside.

"You know that isn't safe right?" He asked. "Why are you so concerned all of a sudden?" I demanded, giving up on trying to open the door. He looked down, as if he lost all energy.

"You just don't get it. It's dangerous," he sternly stated.

"We won't get possessed, Felix. Chill. It's a simple little board, it can't do any harm." And with that, I shoved my way past him, walking out of the room.

                                         ☿

I sat at the kitchen table, digging my fork into the food set on the plate. Across the seat from me is where Felix usually sits for dinner. But he hadn't came down yet.

I heard footsteps coming down, and Felix appeared in the kitchen, sitting down.

"So, hows your cologne ads?" I asked jokingly as he began eating.

"Do you even have an Ouija board?" He asked unpresentable.

"I mean.. no?" I said slowly, eating the last noodle on my plate and carefully watching him. "Do you?"

Sighing, he twisted the fork with a noodle and looked at me. "Yeah." My jaw hung open, but I shut it quickly.

"Where?" I pondered, looking around anxiously.

"In the attic," he replied rather calmly, as if I've been doing this forever.

A excited smile slowly sprung to my face as I stood up, rushing out of the kitchen and towards the stairs, which had the attic's opening above in the roof, consumed by cobwebs.

I kept waiting for him to stop me or something while I opened the latch, hauling the opening aside and pulling myself up with my arms. But he kept eating, the fork clinking against the plate.

The attic was severely dark, full of more cobwebs and dead bugs. Standing up, I- wham!

"Jesus Christ," I muttered, holding my forehead which was pounding like a pulse of a heart from a wooden pillar in front of me.

As I moved around the wood, I began to search for the board. It could be hidden anywhere.

"Felix better not be joking with me," I argued with myself, trying to make my way through the darkness. Boxes were labeled with holidays such as Halloween or Christmas. Felix was pretty organized, I guess.

Then, I heard glass shatter from beneath my foot as I stood forward more. Frozen, I looked down at a picture frame barely being shown under my heel.

"Shoot, Shoot, Shoot," I panicked, kneeling on my knees, examining the photo that was encased within the frame. "The heck?" I said.

The photo was of a lady, who'm was maybe in her 20's. She wore a silk cheongsam, which was blue and dotted with sequins of flowers around the shoulders and waist. Her hair was blond, long and curled at the bottom. Even though she wore a Chinese formal dress, she was English with piercing brown eyes and black wing eyeliner.

"Who is this fine gal?" I asked myself, turning the photo around and noticing nothing, not even a date of the photo. Shrugging and figuring I'd ask Felix later, I gently put the photo down beside the glass and turned.

Lay beside me was the Ouija board. My eyes widened with shock, grabbing it gently and admiring the black letters, the 'Yes' and 'No', and the brown border. Noticing the planchette was missing, I looked at where the board was, but didn't see it.

I was determined to find this. Throwing boxes aside, creating sounds I never even thought were existent, dust flew through and coated the air.

Boxes were scattered and torn, but still no planchette. Turning my body back to the board, I eyed down the photo again. It was slightly perked up on its broken frame.

Reaching for the photo and frame, I felt an odd feeling overcome me, as if the woman's eyes were staring directly at me, the hazel eyes sparking my soul in contrast to the gray background behind her. But the small wooden piece came into view behind the photo I held, lay still on the metal box.

I put the photo and frame down on the metal container in exchange with the planchette, grinning and grabbing the board.

Getting one more glimpse of the photo, which was somehow moved to the floor now, I turned and headed out of the attic.
