I gulped as I gazed out the window of the bedroom I've stayed in, watching the gloom sky above. My thoughts dwindled as I thought that this will be the last time I look out at this. With a gentle knock at the door behind me, I turned and eyed Nathan as he stepped inside, clearing his throat.
My view trailed to his hands settled atop his staff, which was now entirely fixed.
We met eyes again as he shifted his weight, beginning to speak.
"I've retraced some minor spells incase of any.. misconceptions with the portal opening. But otherwise I'm ready whenever you are."His gaze was silent and sorrowful, though he seemed to be restraining his emotions near me.
I nodded quietly, looking back out the window beyond me.The clouds outside began to roar, rain releasing its presence.
Nate had already left the room, which I wasn't aware of until the door slightly hit the lock when it closed.
The realm was quiet today. Not as it was usually, but.. it seemed alone, and hollow.
"It's like this place is losing part of itself," I uttered, catching my reflection staring back at me in the window.I grimaced at my statement. I never seemed to put my name to the contrary of this place, especially saying I've grown part of it.
Maybe I wasn't speaking for myself.
I hadn't an idea where Dark was, but I hoped he wouldn't come across Nate and I leaving. But at the same time, I urgently desired for him to.
"Let it go," I spoke aloud to myself, "it'll be over before you know it."
With a heavy sigh, I turned and headed out of the bedroom, walking the loft downstairs.
☿
Nate stood outside, appearing just enough to see him from the opening of the front entrance, the door wide open. A cold breeze ran through the castle as I neared the opening.
"You're actually wanting to do this still?" Nate asked, looking at me from over his shoulder, his gaze locked at the floor beneath me.
I hesitated briefly, biting my lip, before nodding.
"I'm certain. I know what I'm doing will.. affect this realm, but he- I need it," I replied.Nate crooked a brow at my sudden stuttering of a word, but nodded solemnly.
"Then let's go. Better get it done and over with," he spoke sternly, turning and straightening his posture. I complied, walking up to him.
He eyed me before parting his lips to speak, until we both were interjected by a sudden noise occurring in the castle.
I swiftly turned my head, watching as Dark hurried down the stairs, darting his head at us outside, standing, tensing.
"Anti, Nate? Where are you–"
Before I could hear Dark finish his obvious question, Nate tapped the bottom of his staff at the ground, allowing his mist to swallow us whole. The last thing I saw was Dark running toward us, his expression full of worry.
