*THREE WEEKS LATER*
[SHANES POV]
It was December 24th, Christmas eve. Joey was over, and both my mom and Jerid were home.
We were sitting at the dinner table eating, when my mom asked Joey about his mother.
"So, she doesn't know you're here?" she asked him
Joey was sitting next to me, wearing a dark green flannel, looking gorgeous as always. He glanced down at the table then replied, "No...she doesn't. I didn't tell her"
My mom looked a bit uncomfortable at that..I don't know why.
"Well, Joey, I'm all about you and Shane being happy together, and I totally do not mind you staying her at all honey, but I think it's best for you're mom to know you're here incase anything happens" she said
Joey sighed, then replied "I wish it was that simple for me to tell her Mrs.Dawson, but I feel like she hates me and I don't know what to do about it. It feels like she won't accept me". I noticed how Joey didn't bring up her alcoholic problem, which confused me a bit to be quite honest.
"I'm sure that's not true honey. Listen, it's Christmas eve, and it's wrong for you to not say anything to you're family" my mom said
"No I talked to my family, I talked to my family back in Boston, and I talked to my stepdad here. I just haven't said anything to my mom, and to be honest with you Mrs.Dawson, it doesn't seem like she cares at all because she hasn't said a word to me since she called me three weeks ago, yelling at me" Joey said
"Joey, we all say and do things we don't mean. After all, she is you're mom, and you are her son, and coming from a mother, I would know that no mom just gives up on her child. She may be upset about the situation and handle it differently than you want her too, but she does not hate you nor doesn't care about you" she said looking at Joey with a slight bit of simpathy, "Listen, how about after dinner, at around 7ish, you head over there and speak to her"
Joey's eyes looked back down at the table then replied "Okay"
After that conversation, Jerid tried to make everything happier by telling us all these 'crazy' and funny college stories and experiences. It lightened up the mood of course, but I could tell Joey was uncomfortable about his mom.
After dinner, at exactly 7, Joey and I headed to his house, to finally confront his mother.
We were in the car when I noticed Joey's leg moving up and down, as he tapped his foot repetetively,
"Joey it's okay, relax baby" I told him
"I can't Shane, it's not that easy" his voice was shakey
I reached out and held his hand, once I did, I felt his tight grip on my hands, they made him feel safe. I could tell because shortly after he held my hand with both of his hands.
"Listen, no matter what happens, at least you'll have me. It can't get any worse. Just keep telling yourself that and you'll feel better" I told him
He nodded his head in agreement and we eventually got to his house, and I got out, then opened the door for him and we walked towards the front door.
I turned to him, "You ready for this?" I asked
"Yeah...I guess" he said sadly
I kissed his forehead, then rang the doorbell.
His stepdad opened the door and his eyes widened
"Joey!" he hugged Joey, you can tell he missed him
