This is before Niall ever had the chance to go on X-Factor. 15-16 years of age.

The halls are lined with rows of lockers. Two double doors at the end of the hall lead out into the cafeteria. In between the lockers lie rectangular doors that open into tidy classrooms full of misbehaving kids and annoyed teachers.

This was high school.

Atleast this was high school in Orange County, California.

The bell rang and class was let out for the day. I packed up my supplies, stuffing it into the army green messenger bag that hung over the back of my chair.

As I walked out of the classroom door, I looked for all of my best friends. I walked towards the school doors, ready to get out of this place, when I was stopped. "Ashlie, what are you planning on writing your Literacy report on?" I immediately recognized the person as Niall Horan.

I inwardly sighed. I mean, Niall was sweet and all, and he had this amazing Irish accent, but I could never tell if we were actually friends or not. "I was planning on writing it on the hidden messages in Shakespeare's plays." I answered, giving him a little smile.

"Oh sounds interesting." He started to say, but I was pulled away by my current boyfriend. "You know how we were going to go to the movies tonight? Well I can't." he spoke.

My current boyfriend was Seth Rivers, one of the best football (A/N: Soccer if you're American) players we had, and very popular. We had been dating for two months now.

"You can't?" I asked. "Nope, the boys want me to join them in their paintball game." I was shocked. "So you're going to cancel our date and hang out with the boys over your girlfriend?" I yelled.

He gave me an angry look and walked away, but not before yelling, "Bros before hoes, bitch!"

Niall's POV

I sighed inwardly, watching as Ashlie was pulled away by Seth Rivers, one of the resident popular guys.

Ever since I had transferred from Ireland at 15, I had my eye on Ash. She was absolutely beautiful, though she wasn't always recognized as it. She had blonde-orange hair and sparkling blue eyes that changed their hue. She was naturally pale, but when summer came around she gained a nice tan.

It was obvious by now that she barely even noticed me. I tried talking to her as often as possible, but it never seemed to work out the way I wanted.

She was probably out of my league anyways. I mean, the only thing appealing about me was my accent, and sometimes not even that. I can sing, but I tend not to sing in front of people.

I wasn't worth it to her.

I walked through the doors of the school, heading towards my car. This was going to be another long night.

Ashlie's POV

Everybody was against me.

I had just broken up with Seth, on the account that he didn't care about me at all, and everybody I had ever been friends with turned away from me.

I scrolled through my contacts, trying to find somebody who wasn't angry with me. As I passed the majority of the contacts in my phone, I could feel the tears slip down my face.

I realized there was only one person who wasn't against me.

The phone rang twice before his lovely irish accent picked up, "Hello?" "Hey, Niall. It's Ashlie. Mind meeting me at the park?" He hesitated for a second, before replying, "Sure. I'll meet you there."

Niall's POV

I reached the little park around 10:30, to find Ashlie was sitting on the swings. I cautiously made my over to her.

This was out of the ordinary.

"Hey." I spoke, plopping down on the adjoining swing. "Thanks for coming." she said, looking down. "Is everything okay?" I asked. She looked up and I could see tears in her blue eyes. "No, not really." she started. "I broke up with Seth because he barely even knew I was there and now all of my friends hate me!"

I longed to hug her, to hold her close. "They don't sound like very good friends to me." I honestly had no idea what to say.

We sat in silence for a little before she spoke up again, "You know Niall, you're the only one who doesn't hate me." I pondered my words, "Ash, I could never hate you."

She looked at me, a mix of emotions in her eyes. Sadness, anger, confusion, and the smallest glimpse of happiness.

"I couldn't hate you either, Niall."

I'm trying something new here, so Ashlie will make a cameo in the next story too. Just a little one, to carry on her and Niall's relationship. :)

Hope you liked it!
