Chapter 6

Thoughts in bold and/or italics.

Anika's pov:

Waking up to hear my parents arguing, I tried to block the noise out by covering my ears.

"Great just great, I can already tell today's gonna be one of them days" I muttered

Getting out of bed, I tried getting into my wheelchair by myself, but my hands gave away as I fell to the floor, knocking my arm on my footplates. "AH!" Fuck that hurt!

"Anika are you okay?" My brother asked as he watched me in pity. "Here lemme help you up."

"MOHAMED RAHIM AHMED!" My dad's voice boomed "don't you dare help her up. She caused this mess herself, let her deal with it."

As I watched them walk away, I managed to hoist myself back up into my wheelchair and drive into my bathroom.

Stop crying. I deserve it! I'm such a burden on this family!

Letting my thoughts get to me, I picked up my razor blade and cut my wrist.

Doing my daily routine and whatnot I forgot about my arm, quickly cleaning up the cut I put a plaster on it.
"I guess today's gonna be another long-sleeved day!" I muttered.

You see wearing long sweatshirts I'm a pro at it, it's not that I'm self-conscious, well it is, but it's because of self-harming and the abuse I get.

(Skip the journey to school)

Walking into school I put my headphones in. (I've got social anxiety so when I'm around people I tend to get panicky) walking down the corridors I seen Sam at his lockers getting ready for class

"Hey Sam," I said walking over to him

"Hey Anika," Sam said as he engulfed me in a hug, letting his cologne comfort me

"How have you been? he said as he noticed how tired out I look

"I've been better, but I've also been worse," I said telling the truth

'Oh no, what's happened now?!" He asked. You see Sam knows that I'm having trouble with my family he just doesn't know the lengths of it

"Same old same old, but I'm alright don't worry about me. Anyways let's go see who's going to be our mentor for this year and next year." I said, walking up to the timetable.

A/N school mentor is someone who gives you advice and helps you with revision and preps you for your exams.

"Please say I don't have Mrs Robertson she used to give me the creeps in primary!" Sam complained.

Going through the rota, I found Sam's name.

"Lucky you have got Mr Wells!" I said

"OMFG YOU'VE GOT MR RAVE!" Sam shouted
