Captain Jean Kirschein had left his home at eighteen to sail the open seas. He assembled a crew, first mate; Armin Arlert, age seventeen, an orphan with intelligence beyond anyone imagination. Eren Jeager, age seventeen, a doctor's son but, a notorious street urchin. Marco Bott, age eighteen, a childhood best friend who wished to see the world and document it all. Reiner Braun, age nineteen, the literal braun of the group. Bertholdt Hoover, age nineteen, Reiner's boyfriend and a well trained healer. Connie Springer, age seventeen, a boy wishing to escape his family's plantation. Finally, Ymir Fritz, age nineteen, a woman wishing to escape her past and fake her own death.

It had been a race a year later to find the lost city of Atlantis. A mystical island that had supposedly sunk below the dark waters of the sea. An island of beauty, gold, and a race of beings dubbed, mermaids. The crew had been out at sea for six months now, three years after the quest had started. Most sailors had given up finding the lost city but, Jean chose to keep going aboard his ship, the Survey Scout.

"Captain, it's been nearly four years, should we not dock again? Permanently?" First mate Armin asked, the crew had only redocked months at a time and now they were running low on supplies. "Armin, you know I can't, if I find this island, I'll finally gain some respect as a captain," Jean answered, his long two toned hair whipping in the wind under his pirates cap. "Jean, I know but, we've been at this for so-" Armin was abruptly cut off by the cry of "Batten down that hatches!" Came from Connie, the look out. "All hand hoy!" Shouted Jean from the deck as Armin ran below to call the others. There was an oncoming storm, dark billowing clouds that swirled in a terrifying way.

All hands scrambled to pull life boats onto the ship and run down the sails. They'd done this many times in their nearly four years at sea but, they had never approached a storm this vicious.

They were all below deck before the first clap of thunder. Jean, Armin, Connie, Yimr, Reiner, Bertholdt, Marco and, Eren? Where was Eren? "Has anyone seen Eren?" Armin asked, panic beginning to settle as he was missing his best friend. "I'll go search for him," Marco volunteered. "Marco, it's too dangerous, I'm sure Eren is fine, he's probably down in the belly," Jean said, standing to block Marco's path. "Jean, I'll be fine," Marco said, pushing the captain out of his way. He went above to find the deck soaked, partly flooded as well, lighting flashing all around him. He was sloshing through the deck when a massive wave swelled over the side of the ship and nocked him to the sea. "Dead man tells no tale!" Marco shouted grasping desperately for the ship railing but, was swept over the side.

Below deck, the ship was slammed with the force of a titan. "A wave," Jean bit out. "He didn't survive," Jean said, despair filling his heart. "Jean, I'm sure he's alright," Bertholdt spoke, an attempt to comfort him. "Bertl, it's the same way my father died, he's gone and so is Marco," Jean bit out, tears welling in his eyes. Armin pulled Jean into his shoulder, despite being shorter than him. Jean let tears roll from his eyes on to Armin's leather vest. "This is Jeager's fault," Ymir piped up from the corner. "Don't try to play that card, were family here and were not going to have a mutiny! We've been together for long enough to know that this is no one's fault!" Connie shouted at her. "It's just life on the sea, some die, and some live to tell the tale," Reiner said, everyone save a solem nod in agreement.

The storm lasted two days before the Survey Scout was spit out in the middle of God knows where. Eren had in fact been in the belly of the ship trying to stop any leaks that may come though, they held a send off for Marco, sending his favorite quill in a bottle to drift among the waves of the sea.
