Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Warning this is post anime canon (kinda).
Paring: Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye
(Look, I know romantic or sexual relations with a subordinate in the military is like super illegal in militia laws, none the less, I write. You can't take away my creativity.)
Another thing before we start 'Dauntless' in this fic is meant to be Scar, I just got tired of calling him Scar.

Winter was settling over Amestris, though it was more noticeable in the North than anywhere else, although there was the occasional flurry in Central and the northern parts of the East and West.

"The restoration of Ishval is progressing well, Colonel. The crops are growing as fine as ever despite the coming winter. The Ishvalan people are adapting well to the restoration and support is in pouring from all parts of Amestris to help aid in the restoration," reported a voice from the other side of Colonel Mustang's desk in his newly restored office in Central.

"Very well Breda. Please relay the message to Dauntless and the other Ishvalan leaders that I will visit within the next week," came the deep voice of Roy Mustang from the comfort of his chair, looking directly at his crew member, thankful that he had been returned to his command.

"Dismissed."
"Yes, sir!" With that, Heymans Breda lowered his salute, turned on his heel and made his way back to Ishval.

The rest of the crew sat working diligently at their desks in the left corner of the office. Kain Fuery, Breda, and Riza Hawkeye had all returned to his side. Jean Havoc still recovering from the use of the Philosopher's Stone to regain use of his legs and Vato Falman choosing to stay at Fort Briggs in the North.

"Lieutenant."
"Yes, sir!" Said Riza Hawkeye, standing promptly from her desk.
"Come here."
"You'll accompany me next week to Ishval," Roy said in less of a commanding tone and more in a "please come with me" way.
"Of course sir," Hawkeye responded.
"I'd also like you to accompany me tonight to discuss plans for the further improvement of Ishval."
"Yes sir," she said saluting.
Roy returned the salute and dismissed Riza.

"It's a shame they haven't just gotten together already," whispered Jean to Kain.
"True. How are the legs these days?"
"Better. Still takes time to get used to," he said gesturing to the cane resting against the side of the dark oak desk.

The evening provided crisp, cool air, a bit of a chill nipping at uncovered limbs but, the clear sky was pleasant none the less. Headlights appeared in the window of Riza's townhouse. "That's him," she thought sweetly, spraying a bit of sweet perfume before petting Hayate goodbye for the weekend.

Roy was awestruck when she stepped into the car. Her hair done in her typical yet charming red clip, a cashmere sweater adorning her torso with an oxblood colored cropped leather jacket over top, she wore a skirt and stockings to match her jacket with a pair of dark buckle down boots. "You look beautiful," he expressed as he sped off towards the train station, passing houses and streets adorned with lights expressing the joy of the winter season.

"It's a shame we can't express ourselves in public," Roy commented as the pair strolled to their evening train to the East. They'd be spending the weekend in the East far from Eastern Command, and then traveling to overlook the Ishvalan restoration that week.
"We've managed long enough now colonel," Riza commented.
"Yes I know but, once I'm Fuhrer, the law will change."
"You certainly have big dreams colonel."
"I'm aware lieutenant."

They boarded the cozy train, the ring shifting uncomfortably in Roy's pocket as if it was ready to leap upon Riza's finger and never leave its warm embrace. He was ready to make this step, and once he was Fuhrer, Riza would be his wife.

The lights of Central faded behind them as the train sped towards the countryside of the East.

"I hope all is well with Alphonse in Xing," Riza commented.
"I'm sure he's fine dear. Hopefully, that brother of his is keeping out of trouble. He's old enough now to be held accountable for military duties," Roy complained, as the boy had been alleviated from duty for recovery time.
"He'll be back sooner than you think and then you'll complain about him being in the building all the time."
"Not if I become Fuhrer first," Roy retorted.
"Yes dear, I know. Let's drop the Fuhrer talk for one evening?" Riza suggested.
"As you wish."

Roy kept searching for the perfect place as they wandered around a city in the northern region of the East. Somewhere away from people and beautiful. They checked into their hotel under fake names, hoping they'd be less recognizable in their off duty clothes. "Although that might be a problem during the week," Roy has as an afterthought.

The couple strolled down the chilly streets, the wind whipping against their faces. They bustled into the cozy restaurant as the sky began to fill with sparkles of white. Seated by the window with no one else in sight. "Perfect," Roy thought to himself.

"Hello there dears. I'm Sherri, I'll be your waitress for tonight. Can I get you some drinks?" The waitress asked, a middle-aged woman with smile lines and greying hair.
"Two ice waters?" He looked at Riza for confirmation. She nodded her head in response. "Also a bottle of champagne if you do have," Roy told the waitress.
"Indeed we do sir. I'll be right back with those," she responded and shuffled away.

They wined and dined in peace, the fire lit near the crackling fire giving the entire restaurant a cozy atmosphere.
"To us," Roy said, raising his glass to Riza. Riza returned a smile to him and clinked her glass to his. Roy's confidence began to falter as he knew what he was about to do, the ring a thousand pounds weight in his pocket.

He slid from his chair, taking off his gloves, afraid that if he didn't he'd set the box on fire. Kneeling in front of Riza he pulled forth the ring, beautiful sterling silver with a shining square ruby placed in the middle of a delicate lotus flower.

"Riza, my love. We've been through so much, you've been by my side for as long as I can remember. I want that to be the same, always, no matter what changes around us. Marry me?" He finally posed the question, hands beginning to tremble.
"Of course," Riza answered, smiling down at Roy. He slid the ring on her finger and swept her up in a passionate kiss.

"You'll make a wonderful queen," Roy complimented, Riza rolled her eyes in response.
