Thomas, Newt, Minho, Aris, Teresa and Frypan followed Brenda up to Jorge's room.
She turned to face them. "He'll be back soon. Sit down while you wait."
Suddenly, a voice came from the adjoining room. "Brenda? Who are those people? Are they hear to take me?" Her voice sounded increasingly distressed and she was crying. Brenda ran into the room and knelt down beside you.
"Ssh, ssh. (Y/N), it's okay. These people were out in the Scorch. Nobody's here to take you." She wiped away your tears. "Go to sleep for a bit, then you can meet them."
Brenda walked out of the room and closed the door.
Newt's P.O.V
Brenda walked out of the room and closed the door. "Sorry, (Y/N) gets scared when strangers come here but she has a good reason for it."
"What?" Minho asked.
She glared at him. "(Y/N) decides when people can know."
A few hours later...
I heard Brenda tell Jorge that (Y/N), whoever she was, got scared by us. I have no clue why. Jorge walked into the other room and shut the door. I heard him comforting (Y/N).
When the door opened, Jorge had one arm wrapped around the waist of a girl with (H/L) (H/C) hair. Her face was hidden in his chest.
"It's okay, (Y/N)," he whispered.
He sat her down in a chair and when she faced us, her eyes were milky white. She was blind. I didn't care how her eyes looked. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.
"(Y/N), why were you scared of us?" Thomas asked.
"People keep trying to take me away from Brenda and Jorge because I'm a burden on them."
"(N/N), you're not a burden. I've known you all my life. I promised to never abandon you," Brenda said, visibly upset.
I took a step forward but looked at Brenda and Jorge to see if it was okay. They nodded.
"(Y/N)'s been blind since the minute she was born. Our parents were best friends so naturally, we became best friends too. After our families both got infected, I promised to look after her," Brenda explained.
I crouched down in front of (Y/N) and took her hands in mine. Her breath hitched.
"Who's there?" she asked.
"My name's Newt. I'm not going to hurt you. None of us will."The others left the room leaving (Y/N) and I alone.
"(Y/N), can I ask you a question?"
She nodded.
"What does the world look like to you?"
"Darkness. An endless sea of black."
"But what do you do when you don't know what something or someone looks like?"
"I imagine it," she said, "For example, I ask people what they look like and I build a picture in my head. I know that Brenda has short brown hair and brown eyes. I then picture her and she is very pretty."
She reached out and placed a hand on my cheek. "I don't need to know what you look like to know that you are handsome."
I felt myself blush. "Don't you ever wonder what you look like?"
"Sometimes. How about you tell me what you see when you look at me. And be honest."
"I see a girl with (H/L) (H/C) hair. Her eyes are milky white but I can see the slightest hint that they would have been (E/C) if her sight wasn't stolen from her. But I don't care because she is beautiful."
"I said be honest."
"I am being honest. You are beautiful."
For the first time, I saw her smile and it was beautiful.A few days later...
(Y/N) curled up against my side. She sniffed slightly. "I miss Brenda," she whispered.
Tommy and Brenda had been separated from us a couple days ago. (Y/N) missed Brenda terribly.
"Don't worry, Love. We'll find them." I kissed her lips lightly. I hated seeing her like this. She was vulnerable enough. I knew I had to protect her.
