Ashton's pov.

"Guys shut up a sec" I said as I entered the room at the back of the bus. They were playing mario kart and screaming like a bunch of toodlers.

"Ash! You're back!" Michael said "where's Jamie?"

"She's just out there" I said

"Let's go see her then" he said standing up and making his way to the door.

"Don't" I said "just let me warn you"

"Warn us?" Luke asked confused.

"Shes turned into a 'cold heartless bitch'" I said quoting my mothers exact words.

"What? Jamie?"

"Yes."

"Good joke. But she's the nicest person We know" Luke stated

"Fine go see for yourself, but I did warn you, she isn't the same and mum said that she seems to hate everyone and everything" I sigh.

"Do you know why's she's changed?" Calum asked

"Not exactly. Mum said she just came home one day and it was like she just stopped living, then she became a heartless bitch. My guess is that something happened that day she changed but she won't tell anyone."

"I'm gonna go talk to her" Luke said getting up to go to the door. Luke was the most excited to see her. If we stayed in Australia I'm pretty sure they would have been dating by now.

Michael and Calum gave me sympathetic looks as I sat down on the couch with them and waited for Luke to return.

Luke's pov.

"Jamie!" I said as I saw her sitting on her bunk looking at her phone.

She slowly lifted her head to look up at me.

"Luke." She said bluntly before turning her attention back to her phone. I watched her for a minute before sitting next to her.

After several minutes she sighed locking her phone and chucking it down next to her.

"Can I help you?" She asked sharply.

"I was just waiting for you to be finished so we can talk" I said

"I don't want to talk to you." She mumbled.

"Why?"

"Because I have nothing to say to you" she growled.

"Well I have plenty to say to you. It's been at least 6 months since I last saw you. We have tons to catch up with."

"Have you ever thought that I don't care about what you have to say? So there's no point saying it anyway." She said

"Oh come on. Drop the act. I'm one of your best friends, don't shut me out now."'I said confused at how she seemed like a total stranger.

"I'm not your best friend. I'm not even your friend. I don't need friends" she said.

I held back a gasped not believing the words coming out of her once innocent mouth. It seemed like the old her had been killed and she had been replaced by pure hard stone.

"Everybody needs friends." I told her.

"Yeah, but here's the thing. I'm not everybody."

" why don't you need friends. What so different about you that makes you not need friends?" I asked concerned.

"People with friends are stupid. All they're doing is putting their trust in somebody else who will sooner or later fuck things up and then stop talking to each other. I'm just spearing myself the pain and loss." She stated. I couldn't see the sense in this and went to say something but she cut me off.

"Please Luke. Don't bother."

"I want to help you." I called after her.

"I don't need help. Not from you, not from anyone."

"I'm going to help you whether you need it or not." I said

"Fine. You can help me." She said throwing me a fake smile. "You can help me by leaving me alone."

I wasn't giving up on her just yet. I followed her outside of the bus and sat on the curb next to her.

It was silent as she pulled out a pack of cigarettes and taking one out to light it.

"You don't smoke?" I said shocked.

"Of course not" she said sarcastically as she took a drag from the death stick.

"those things will kill you Jamie"

"I don't care"

"but that's the problem... I do"

"I never asked you to, why don't you do your self a favour and walk away"

"no"

"i'm a mess Luke, can't you see? I'm not worth your time."

"No you're not. You've just taken the wrong path... you're- you're a disaster" I said

She looked at me shocked that I had almost agreed with her.

"A beautiful one"

She looked at me seriously before she turned away, a slight smile playing at her lips before it dropped completely.

I took the box of cigarettes off her but gave them back before she could protest. What she hadn't noticed was that I took one bringing it up to put between my lips.

"Can I borrow your lighter?" I asked.

"Don't be stupid Luke. You don't smoke"

"Of course not" I said quoting her words from earlier as I lit the cigarette.

We sat in silence until Ashton called us back inside as we were about to hit the road.
