Francine

After parking my black BMW on the side road, I sent a quick text to the officer I know who oversaw the patrol around the abandoned mall saying that I was going to the mall to get away from the mansion. He was quick to reply an approval and a hint that there will be a small number of cops around me to watch for my safety, either from other trespassers or from myself. I smiled, knowing that he and the other cops truly cares, then headed to the side of the mall with my bag.

The officer I know is from the Sheriff's department and he knew the Francine behind the makeup and smiles that were often seen in the media. However, due to my parent's connections, they could not get more proof of the stuff they did to me as there are no witnesses willing to testify. Plus, it was me who told them that it would just be a losing battle. With their money and convincing skills, they could simply pay the judge and turn me into a liar.

Anyway, when I reached the familiar bars leading to the garage. The police boarded up my usual opening, a big hole on a wall, so I had to go through a different entrance. I carefully and painfully climbed the bars, keeping the tears at bay and focusing on my goal to enter the mall. After a painful 10-minute climb, I grabbed my iPod and hooked my headphones on to take my mind off the silence that reminds me of the mansion. Occasionally, I would see shadows at the corner of my eyes, but I ignored them and continued to the entrance I know. At this point, I didn't care if the shadow was an explorer, a murderer, or a cop watching over me. If I die, then I would probably say thank you to my murderer.

Thank you for stopping me from killing myself over the hope that deep down, my parents still love me.

When I reached the entrance, I pulled the door open and headed inside, not caring to close the door behind me. Since I was in pain and limping, I know that I was making a lot of noise, probably attracting the attention of murderers or explorers, the latter probably getting scared at the thought of having someone with them in here. I continued walking and climbing stairs until I reached my favorite spot, the roof. I went to a spot a bit far from the stairs heading down and sat on the edge with my feet dangling. One wrong move and I could lose my life, just the way I like it.

It was about midnight when I felt that there were people climbing up the roof. The vibration of their footsteps could be felt on the roof, so I immediately pulled my headphones off and my hood up, not because I'm scared but because I might scare them. Their flashlights were going around the roof, trying to see if there were anyone with them up here. I just sat there, staring at the beautiful night sky, waiting for them to discover me.

"Do you see how pretty it looks here? Look at the downtown over there." A voice said as the others started spreading out to check the perimeter. None of them were getting close to where I was, which is good. His next question got me smiling, though. "Hey guys, why is there a staircase that goes to nowhere but a hundred-foot drop?"

"What?" A different man asked. The other man probably pointed at the staircase because his response was, "Oh my god." A woman said something I didn't quite catch.

"Yup." The other went to the first man to check out the said staircase and talked for a bit while the others continued walking around. I estimated about 5 people here with me. While trying to hide and not fall to my death, a fly landed on my nose and I was too slow to shoo it away because the next thing I know is that I sneezed. I was quick enough to cover but they still probably heard it.

They gathered on the other side of the roof and talked, one probably pointing out a random sneeze, before continuing their walk around the roof.

"Hey guys," the first man called to his companions, "H. E. L. P. That spells help." I pursed my lips and remembered the day I wrote that there. Then they continued walking around. I don't know how they were not able to see me but I'm glad they didn't because after 30 minutes of walking, they settled near the staircases. When they did, I grabbed my bag and silently moved closer to their place, making sure to stay hidden in the shadows.

"So, what's the game plan? Do we wanna go back down?"

"No." The third man quickly said.

"Let's wait it out here, and then, if we don't see anybody like last time, for thirty minutes, we should go back down." I swear, when I got closer, their voices started sounding familiar.

"I brought a football. I think you brought..."

"I brought a couple of penny boards."

"Then let's stay up here."

"You wanna throw a football up here?"

"Rather than down there, with probably killers!"

"I don't wanna do it on the roof."

"There are murderers down here." And police officers... who are probably aware that they are here. With me. "Everyone else thinks that we're stupid. When this video never gets uploaded 'cuz we're dead, you're gonna regret not playing football up here."

Video? So, they're a bunch of explorers.

"I just don't understand why it's like, we hear noises, then let's play skateboard around them, you know?" The fourth guy said sarcastically. The fourth guy sent shivers down my spine as I recognized that voice from YouTube. These guys were not just a bunch of explorers, they were Youtubers with millions of subscribers combined.

Elton Castee, Sam Golbach, Corey Scherer, Amanda Swearingen, and Colby Brock.

And they think that there are murderers down there when it was I who was making noises.

"Why won't we just camp here, we're gonna stay here over night?" Colby asked.

"That was the video, 100k likes and we stay here overnight. Not 'we go down there and.. you know'." Corey said.

"If we skate there it will be like, 'hi, hello, come kill us'." Amanda seconded.

"I agree with Sam if we wait here for like 30 minutes to an hour and we don't hear anything, let's go." Colby said. Finally, the first man, Elton, agreed.

I sighed silently and thought that this would be the best time to pop out and help them out. "Excuse me, guys?"
