Colby

Levin's eyes were deadly.

His aquamarine eyes narrowed down at me as he slowly assessed me from head to toe, probably wondering what I did to make his sister act like this. I just hope he tones down that scrutinizing gaze because for one, even I don't know why Francine was acting this way-not that I'm complaining. Second of all, I feel like he's assessing me like how a detective would watch a criminal under investigation, searching for the smallest of flaw that he could find and use it against me. It really feels uncomfortable.

However, despite his watching eyes and two pairs of shocked browns, I did not have the heart to reject and push her away. Especially when it felt nice to have her lean on me, both in the literal and metaphorical sense.

Julianne, sent me one last grin, before clearing her throat and going into her serious and professional mode to start explaining the plan in details. "As we all know, during the trial a few hours ago, John and Cassidy Lockhart pulled out some videos that showed Francine acting the total opposite of her true personality." I felt France flinch at the mention of the situation a few hours prior. I rested a comforting arm around her shoulder, my action not escaping her brother's eyes, which caused her to lean onto me more.

"We all know the truth and the truth is that Francine is not the girl on the videos." Kenneth continued. "I managed to get copies of the videos under the pretense of analyzing them for editing, took some screen shots, and had them printed out." He pulled out a stack of printed pictures and passed them to me. Francine tilted her head to give her more access to the pictures, pressing her head onto my chest. We both scanned through the photos and as we slowly moved from one picture to another, we noticed one thing in common.

"The Francine in these pictures..." I started as we continued to skim through the stack. "Her face is always blurry."

"Correct." Kenneth confirmed. "I managed to contact a friend of mine who is an expert in video editing and he certified that her face were indeed blurred out for a reason." He then pulled out another set of pictures and handed them to me. "Those pictures are the same as the ones before, though he managed to edit the images and make the face of 'Francine' clear."

Francine immediately snatched the new stack of pictures from my hand and analyzed them. Slowly, we went through the images. "This..." She breathed out in disbelief as the realization sunk in to the both of us. "Who is she?"

In the images, the girl's figure was uncannily similar to that of Francine's, allowing others to believe that it truly was her despite the fact that her face was always blurry in each videos. However, the face and her features were far from Francine. The most obvious difference was the eye color. The girl in the images had dull browns, a total opposite of Francine's captivating bright aquamarine eyes.

"We managed to track down the girl in the videos and she was supposed to show up earlier," we both snapped our heads towards Julianne's direction in surprise. "However, her mother, who is currently in a hospital, went to a critical condition and she could not leave her alone. Especially when John and Cassidy sent her some death threats to keep her mouth shut."

Kenneth handed me folder in which Francine snatched from my hands once again. "Inside the folder is her profile and background." Francine opened the folder with shaky hands.

Hazel Johnson
28 Years Old
Aspiring actress
Hospitalized mother
Need money and donor for mother's heart transplant

Those five lines were enough for me to know what could have happened that led her to do what she did. Francine slowly read through the entire paper that contained Hazel's background and past.

"How is her mother?" She asked after she read through the entire thing. Once again, she worried about someone else, forgetting what Hazel did to her like it was nothing.

Julianne's eyes softened before she looked the other way, avoiding Francine's eyes. "I was informed this morning that if they are not able to find the money for the operation within twenty four hours, her mother could lose her life. They already found a donor that is compatible with her mother but the hospital will not do the operation until Hazel pays for their current hospitalization bills as well as a down payment for the operation.

"John and Cassidy found her in her darkest state and offered her a solution that she couldn't refuse. Hazel personally told me that Cassidy managed to persuade her that all she was doing was auditioning and that they needed to film her acting what they wanted her to act for future review. It wasn't until she had a death threat from Cassidy that she realized what was going on."

Kenneth continued to explain further. "When we approached her, she was cautious and she kept on saying that she was not a part of it until we reassured her and her mother's safety. As of the moment, we have several guards stationed all over the hospital and we assigned the best guards to watch over Hazel and her mother."

Francine sat there in silence as she let the information sink in. I, on the other hand, slightly gawked at the married couple at the amount of work they were able to do in a short span of time.

All for the sake of Francine.

We all sat in silence as we waited for Francine. We all could guess what was going through her head right now and we waited for her decision. To her, Hazel was an innocent woman who were dealt with the bad cards. She was simply forced to play the worst card unknowing of the consequence that might come after. I could pretty much feel Francine's care for such a strong woman, fighting to keep her family alive.

"Can... We go see her?" Francine hesitantly asked. Kenneth, Julianne, and Levin's eyes all softened at her question. She was hesitant, knowing that to be able to do so, she would need to get pass a lot of people to get there and that might bother them. I rubbed my hand reassuringly on her upper arm, silently telling her that I would be there when she goes.

"Of course, sweetheart." Julianne said, my action not missing her eyes. Her eyes twinkled in delight when she saw what I was doing. Levin was not as happy as his adoptive mom though, he kept on sending me glares as if warning me to get my hands off his sister. I mean, I would remove them if Francine did not want me touching her but from the way she leaned onto me, I could say that I can enjoy a bit more of some slightly intimate physical connection with her.

"Thank you."

I don't know what I'm doing 😂😂 was that okay? A bit of Colby and France interaction/development during the trial break?

Your feedbacks would be great and they would surely help me with how I write the next chapters, maybe even when I do some editing in the future. Help a sister out (James Charles, anyone? 😂)

Thank you all!
