Skye's Story: Chapter 5

Steve was smiling to me as i spoke. If he noticed how i acted with that guy; he didn't show it. "I like your laugh..." He squeezed my side lightly, our hands still entwined as i blushed.

Our waiter came to our table delivering the two cokes we had asked for earlier and for our food orders. As Steve ordered his hold around me was firmer than it had been; I'm sure he had noticed something odd and I wasn't just going crazy. Once the waiter left his grip on me loosened and i squeezed his hand before resting my head back against him. "Changing the subject back," I smiled - ignoring the girl with her hair in ponytail, staring at us - as the captain drew circles on the back of my hand with his thumb. "So you were jealous of your friend Bucky?"

He chuckled and continued to trace circles over the back of my hand. "Yes i was, he was able to fight for our country and i was denied of this privilege."He kissed the top of my head and i felt the blood rushing to my cheeks.

"Well how did you become a super soldier and then a capsicle...." I drifted of and covered my mouth with my hand for the second time, facing him again. "Did i really just say that?" As he nodded i shook my head in disbelief. I couldn't believe i just referred to him as a capsicle. I caught the girl looking at me again but i shook the thought away getting frustrated with people staring at us; its just Captain America! Okay, fair enough if Captain America was at the restaurant i was at, i would be staring be staring too.

Steve looked into my eyes with a smile on his face, "Don't worry." He wrapped a lock of my hair around his finger and let it fall around my face.

I was shaking my head again, "that was a really cruel comment." I looked down at our hands and loosened my hold. "I'm so sorry." As i bit my lip he wrapped my hand gently but firm, at the same time, in both of his.

"I found it quite funny to be honest." He supported a genuine smile on his face and it made my heart skip a beat.

"Anyway... I wanted to join the army but I wasn't able to." He shrugged and i stared at him in disbelief again.

"Really?" Our food arrived and i could feel his body tense against mine but I ignored the waiter apart from saying a quick thank you before he strode off. "Why?" I was starting to get really inquisitive.

He let go of my hand and picked up his fork in his right hand a spoon with his left so that he could to try to twirl and eat his spaghetti in a polite way.

This made me laugh slightly at his attempt but i found it sweet how much of an effort he was trying to make. "So why wouldn't they let you? I don't understand how they couldn't recruit you." I blushed and giggled thinking about how stupid i must sound.

He just smiled at me and stroked my cheek as he finished his mouthful. "Well..." Steve's cheeks reddened at the memory - mirroring the colour of mine - but he continued anyway, "i wasn't strong enough. "

"Okay i want to see a picture of you before you had the serum!" I exclaimed smiling back at him.

He chuckled at my reaction and then tapped my nose lightly. "Well, unfortunately for you, lucky for me," he teased, "cameras weren't common in the 1940's." He looked at me with curiosity and worry.

I realised it was his age. "So your about 80?" I questioned him but felt awkward for asking.

"Well... Yes..." I could see his facial expression change; it suddenly dropped to sadness but i was smiling. This made him look slightly confused which, in my opinion, made him look really cute.

"Probably nearer 90." I squeezed his hand making his frown turn upside down. 'Yes i did just say that.' Steve picked up his fork with his free hand and took a mouthful but ended up with the sauce on his cheek and by his lip. He was most likely really confused at why i was smiling but he didn't seam to mind. "But..."

He looked at me confused again and raised his eyebrow slightly as he looked at me. "You're actually nearer 20-30 ish than 90." I smiled and picked up the napkin on the table wiping the sauce off his face.

The solider giggled and blushed after realising his face was a mess. "I guess so." He shrugged but didn't take his lovingly look away from me.

"You were frozen in time weren't you?" I rested my head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arms around me as i glared at the newspaper guy who was talking to the girl with the pony tail.

Steve nodded, his head rested slightly against mine."Yes i was." He nuzzled his face into my hair for a few seconds making my flush red. "Doctors think the serum saved my life..."

I finished my food and turned around to him. "you say that like its a bad thing?" I looked at him curiously and he shrugged.

"Ill explain later," he smiled at me as I finished off my drink.

I looked at the clock on the wall, "Crap! Coulson is gonna kill me!" I went to grab my purse and signalled for the waiter.

He gasped, "I'm paying!" I snapped my fingers teasingly but i was smiling.

"Oh... I almost got a way with it but oh wait; i did." He brought the bill over and i realised he always hid his face as best as he could from me... Strange. He quickly smacked some notes onto top of the bill smiling happily.

"I wouldn't get over excited," i giggled. "If im not mistaken you just put down foreign currency..." I took Steve's wallet out from my pocket and waved it in his face, the captain then looked in his pocket -pulling out a replica of his own and sure enough it was filled with another currency. "Never underestimate me." I smiled and he squeezed my hand in his.

"Oh damn...." He rubbed his face with his other hand as i put the correct money on the table. "I feel guilty now."

I couldn't help but laugh, "you shouldn't besides; i used wards money, but i didn't tell you that!" A smirk played across my face but his stayed serious.

"You've mentioned him a few times, this Ward." He looks at me with hope and desperation.

I nodded, "well he is my SO he..." I smacked my hand against my head as i realised one of the most obvious things. I don't understand how i could have been so stupid. I looked towards the guy holding the newspaper. "He is always looking out for me..."
