Piers

It was quite a while before we reached the underwater facility, so I struck a conversation with Amara. I switched off both our radios for a moment.

"What gives, Piers? Are you trying let me in on a secret or are you going to force a secret out of me?" she asked, focusing on the radar on the dashboard.

"What's your connection with Leon?"

"My partner," she replied instantly. "And actually my superior, though we're the same rank. I respect him a lot."

"And when you're not on duty?"

"My older brother. He's always there for me and I owe him everything."

"What about Jake?"

"What about Jake? The fact that he's Wesker's kid? I mean, I didn't know but... he's always been a kick-ass. I'm not entirely worried about him, but sometimes I want to smack his head for being so damn reckless all the time."

"You like him?" I asked, only realising later that I wasn't being too subtle.

"Wait, what? What is this, twenty questions?"

"I'm just asking," I quickly said.

"Never pegged you for the... curious type. Anyway, you've got your answers and if you doubt me any further, ask me later. Turn the radio back on. We're landing."

Both our aircraft landed and we quickly made our way into the lifts.

"You okay?" Chris asked Amara.

"I'm fine. I'll be better when I kill David Richards."

The lift continued to descend and suddenly we were out of the darkness. We realised how huge the underwater facility was and how deep beneath the ocean we were. Chris suddenly got too quiet as he stared at his own reflection.

"It's been three years since I killed Wesker. I can't let this war follow me forever," Chris said, turning to face me. "After we rescue Jake, I'm turning in my gun."

"What?! Wait a minute-"

"It's about time someone took my place. And I'd be honoured if it was you."

I was at a loss of words. I saw Amara giving me a small smile. "I... I don't think I'm ready for that," I replied, finally finding my voice.

"You've made this far, haven't you?"

The lift stopped and the doors opened. I was glad we had arrived because I didn't want to continue the conversation. I've never thought about taking over as captain. I admired Chris too much for that to happen.

"This is it!" Chris exclaimed and we raised our guns, heading out of the lift.

We entered the next room where there were a set of controls and screens. I spotted Jake and Sherry being held in a room. Chris handed me his gun as he tried to disable the lock system. After a while, the lock was disabled and the two were released.

Amara went next to a microphone and spoke into it, "Hey, jerk. Don't die. You owe me drinks when we're out of here."

Jake stared up at the camera above and shot her a wink. I threw up in my mouth a little and I could've sworn that Chris saw me. Suddenly, the systems blared and everything went red.

"Shit, sorry!" Amara said, backing away from the controls.

I handed back Chris his gun and asked him if he had seen where Jake and Sherry were being held at. He said it was some sort of research bay, near the lab where David Richards was. The door we entered from was sealed, so we had to go through the vents. Chris went first, then Amara but I noticed that she was having a hard time with her leg. Once we got through to the other side, I asked her if the wound was getting worse. She said it'll be fine as long as I would carry her out of this place. I agreed.
