In My Arms

"AMARA!"

I held her in my arms, pushing her hair out of her face. I kept calling her name, but she didn't respond. Her breaths were shallow, making it seem like she was in a deep sleep. I glanced at her leg and realised that her wound was gone as if it was magically healed.

"Ah, Captain Redfield and Lieutenant Nivans. Welcome."

Both of us whipped around with our guns pointed directly at Richards.

"You were working for Umbrella the whole time," Chris stated, his voice seething with anger.

"Just like how Amara was," he replied, pointing an empty syringe at Amara.

"What the hell did you do to her?!" I yelled, afraid that she would turn into one of the BOWs. I held her closer to me.

"You're always the brash one, aren't you, Lieutenant?" he chuckled, tossing the syringe away.

I shot multiple rounds at him, but he dodged it easily. Chris and I kept shooting at him, but all of our bullets missed. He swatted my gun aside and kicked me away from Amara. He easily pinned Chris to the wall with one hand.

"Chris!" I shouted as he struggled against his grip.

Richards laughed. "Ah, Captain. Pity, isn't it? That you haven't learnt your lesson yet?"

I took this opportunity to punch Richard, but he knocked me down. Chris hurriedly got out of his grasp and backed up.

"How are you like Wesker?!" Chris questioned, now standing on his feet.

"Hmph, the question you should be asking is, why was Wesker like me? Captain, what do you think I've been doing all along?" he asked, moving towards a panel on the wall. He keyed in a few things while Chris secretly took out his knife. "BSAA was nothing but a good cover."

"You know I've killed Wesker before, so killing you won't be that hard," Chris said, inching closer towards Richards with his knife.

Richards turned around too quickly, catching Chris off guard and knocking the knife right out of his hands. The knife landed directly in front of me. Richards then held Chris in a headlock, forcing him to look at the panel. Chris didn't put up any struggle, knowing that it was useless.

"Haos Simulation," Richards read out loud. "Damn thing created by Carla. She was a fool to let things go to her head. Let me remind you, that BOW is still out there. Once we're done here, Haos will swim right up into the world and destroy it."

"The missile, the city, that was all a distraction for this master plan of yours?" I questioned angrily.

"Yes, that's right. Carla did all the work for me. It's all just to buy time for Armageddon to happen. Unfortunately, you won't be seeing it. I want the pleasure of seeing both of you die right in front of me now."

Suddenly, I heard Amara stirring. I immediately rushed to her side. When her eyes opened, however, it was bloodshot red. She pushed me back with a huge force, and I collided with the wall behind me. I could hear Chris calling for me, followed by Richards laughing. He locked Chris in a tighter submission. I hurriedly stood up, trying to get close to Chris, but Amara stood in my way.

"Amara, what are you doing?"

She didn't respond. Instead, Richards answered my question with a sickening answer. "You're looking at Project Amara, my greatest creation. When Armageddon is over, a new world will be reborn, and I will be the only one left standing with an obedient pet right beside me, listening to my every command."

"Amara, snap out of it! It's me, Piers!" I yelled, but she remained expressionless.

"Amara's not here anymore," he growled. "Wesker thought he created the ultimate control device with Jill, but clearly, I won. Project Amara has the A-Virus in her, and there's no way you can do anything to remove it. Now, enough talk. Let me demonstrate Project Amara's capability."

Chris struggled against the restrain. I got into my fighting stance, even though I didn't want to hurt her. Weapons were not an option.

"Kill them, Project Amara. Starting with Piers Nivans," Richards instructed and Amara picked up Chris' knife. "I'm sure Chris Redfield wouldn't mind seeing the deaths of his men all over again."

Amara lunged at me, but I quickly dodged. Amara was good with her knife and it seemed like whatever the virus was enhanced her skills. I couldn't dodge for long and before I knew it, she had slashed my right arm. Blood spilt everywhere.

"I thought you were better than that, Lieutenant," Richards mocked. "Kill him slowly, Project Amara. Let's see him suffer."

Amara came at me again, and I did my best to disarm her. She kept attacking my right arm, trying to get me at a disadvantage. I managed to pin her and toss the knife away, hoping it would land near Chris so he could get out of the hold. Amara turned around, reaching for my neck and choking me.

"No!" Chris shouted.

From the corner of my eye, I could see that he had grabbed back his knife and attacked Richards. While Richards dodged, Amara let go of me and landed a haymaker on Chris. Richards laughed again and at this point in time, I hated his voice.

"Need I remind you that Amara is loyal only to me. She'll do anything to protect me."

Chris wiped off the blood on his lips. He looked at me and I nodded. Someone had to restrain Amara while the other kill Richards quickly. On his signal, we lunged at both of them. I went right up to Amara and distracted her while Chris fought off Richards. We weren't strong enough and they still had the upper hand. We needed a change of tactics and fast.

"The C-Virus," Chris panted next to me. "The one in Amara's pocket. Grab it and toss it to me. I'll slow down Richards with that."

I went head-on with Amara, trying to get the syringe out of her front pocket but she grabbed hold of my right arm and twisted it. I groaned in pain, trying to get her off of me. She kicked me right in the ribs, causing me to kneel down. Just before she could grab me in another chokehold, I stuck out my leg and tripped her. It gave me just enough time to snatch the syringe from her. But when I looked at it, the syringe was empty.
