Amara

I spent the entire week in isolation, trying to get my thoughts together. I realised being by myself was the worst thing to do, so I stayed over at Leon's who gladly opened his door for me. When I was finally fit to get back to work, the first thing I got was lectures from Hunnigan. Leon and I had to sit through meetings discussing the DSO and the next presidential election procedures. I had also finally finished my report titled 'The Hunter Report' and submitted it. I wrote every single thing about the mission, the virus and my past in the report. It took a while for me to get it done, but I made sure everything was in there, right to the details. There wasn't much to get out of exposing more of Umbrella's dirty work, but at least whoever who read my reports would be aware of the A-Virus. I can't be sure if the virus was still out there, but I prayed it wasn't. I also wrote about how Jake's blood combined with the C-Virus was the antidote. I haven't met Jake since Edonia, though I saw him through the surveillance camera in the underwater facility. I made a mental note to thank him one day. He did still owed me a drink.

Chris and I went through a discussion with the higher-ups in the BSAA. We finally got to an agreement that I would still receive alerts from HQ and Alpha Team, but I was under no circumstances to reveal it to anyone, not even to the DSO. If the BSAA, particularly Alpha Team, needed my assistance, I would be helping them. Chris had told me that I didn't need to help out if I was going to be very busy with my DSO work. I told him that I had grown attached to the BSAA and the Alpha Team, and I wanted to continue to be under his leadership. He thanked me and said he'd continue being the captain since it was the least he could do to honour the fallen soldiers.

Everything was so calm now. I finally felt like I was free. No more mind control and no more crimes. The breeze of the sea cooled my skin. I walked across the sand, holding my shoes in my hand. Just then, I heard footsteps approaching me. I turned around, pushing back my hair. I smiled looking at Piers. He had a clean look — a plain white shirt that revealed his abs just slightly because of the wind, dark washed jeans, combat boots and his dog tags. He still looked very military, but he looked handsome. I felt as though I was falling for him again.

"Hey," I said when he stared unblinking at me. I didn't realise we were both staring at each other.

"Hey..." he spoke, fumbling his words. "You... umm, you look good."

"Thanks, Piers."

"I mean it. You look gorgeous in that sundress."

"I'll make it a point to wear dresses when we go out together," I giggled. I held out my hand and asked, "Walk with me?"

He linked his hand with mine, lacing his fingers. We walked across the beach, admiring the sunset view. We finally stopped at one of the pavilions.

"Everything's calm now," he said, having the same thoughts as I did. "Kinda scary, but good. After all that happened, we're finally able to get peace."

I nodded. I turned to face him. "So how are you holding up?"

"Me? I'm just fine. The wounds healed fast. But what about you? Are you okay?"

"Honestly, it's still a lot to take in, but I'm coping. I've got Leon, Chris and you to talk to. Besides, you're here now with me so everything's just fine."

He smiled. "That's good to hear. I'm glad that you're alright."

"Of course. You saved me, that's why I'm alright."

"...You saved me too you know."

"Guess we don't owe each other then," I joked. When he didn't respond, I looked at him worriedly. "Piers? Hey, what's wrong?"

"Nothing. It's just that..." he trailed off. Something in his eyes changed as he looked at me. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest under his gaze. "You're just so goddamn beautiful."

"...Then what are you waiting for?"

Piers pulled me close to him, kissing me hard. It wasn't like the first kiss we had when it felt urgent and worried. And it wasn't like the second kiss we had when it felt relieved. This kiss was filled with passion, and it felt as though I was finally feeling Piers for the first time. I pulled his dog tags to deepen the kiss. He grunted, running his hand through my hair. When we finally parted, we panted for air.

"I've always wanted to do that when I fell for you hard, back in the base. I wanted to show everyone that I wanted you so badly," he whispered. I chuckled, placing my arms around his neck. He snaked his arms around my waist and rested his forehead on mine. "I love you, Amara. I love you so damn much."

"I love you too, Piers."

"I don't ever want to lose you. Not again," he continued, his voice dipping into a low whisper.

"I know. I'm not going anywhere this time."

He kissed me again, this time smiling into the kiss. "You make me feel so happy, Amara."

"The feeling's mutual. Just don't be an asshole?"

He laughed and agreed. "I told you I'm sorry, Amara."

"I know, I'm teasing you," I chuckled, pecking him on the lips.

"You know what I love about you, Amara?"

"What? My sass? My looks? My skills?"

"All of you," he stated, and I giggled appreciatively. "You're perfect."

"You're making me blush, Piers."

"I love your name too... Amara Rollins...," he said, playing with my hair. Just then, he chuckled as he looked down. "God, this must be a miracle because I can't believe I'm with you."

"I'm right here with you, Piers. I'm right in your arms."

"I know... It's just that... You make me so crazy," he spoke. "I promise I'll be nothing but the best for you."

"I know you will..." I said, looking right into his eyes. I then giggled, shaking my head. "I actually never expected to fall in love."

"Ever?"

"I just didn't think about it, but then you came in and... wow."

"I'm pretty sure that's how I actually felt."

I smiled then mumbled, "I promised an old friend that I'd find love someday. I'm glad it's you."

Just then his phone buzzed and shortly afterwards mine did too. For a moment, my heart skipped a beat, thinking that there was another outbreak somewhere. When I checked my messages, I saw a text from Hunnigan reminding me of the meeting I had tomorrow morning with the board of directors. Piers then showed me his message from Chris about the new rookie soldiers showing up for tomorrow's afternoon recruitment. I got the same message from Chris right after.

"Looks like we still have a lot of work to do."

"Yeah, but it's all tomorrow," I said, pushing my phone back into my purse. I placed my hands on his chest and gave him a smile. "But tonight, it's all about us."

"You're right," he agreed, putting away his phone as well. "Tonight, it's just you and me, baby."

"I love it when you call me that," I admitted shyly.

He grinned, kissing me once more. "Dinner?"

"You bet. Is it steak?"

He laughed, nodding. "Let's go, baby."
