she went through the motions, ever so often scribbling down something unrelated to class, or quickly putting a piece of her hair behind her ear. it was dirty blonde and unremarkable, just like the rest of her.

she wondered where he was right now. this was her only class without him. she wondered where he was while she wrote down her name on her homework.

she hated her name. she had detested it since the day she could speak.

she continued to write it anyway, and reluctantly turned in her completed homework.

her friends tried to include her in their conversation, but she just listened in, smiling when appropriate. they gave up soon enough.

he asked everyone he knew.

no one knew the girl with the brown glasses.

it was like she had just suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

his thoughts about her were interrupted when the home ec teacher called his name.

"tristan, did you finish your assignment today?"

his girlfriend snickered and grabbed his hand underneath the table. he mentally panicked.

he could never remember these things. he had so much other things to do; sports on sports on sports to try to get an early impression on one of the many colleges his dad was trying to get him into, various volunteer opportunities - the list went on and on.

he shook his head and the teacher gave him a disapproving stare. his girlfriend tried again to laugh it off for him, but he unhooked his hand from hers and ran it through his hair.

it was the only normal thing about him. brown and unremarkable, totally different of what everyone thought.

girls loved him. he was an amazing basketball player. he was so nice to everyone and so inclusive, while in reality he just wanted time to himself. he just wanted to be normal.

he was always known, and he hated it.

she thought that if she was normal, he would love her.

she tried as hard as she could, but she could never change.

she would always be the one that was made the example. she would always be the one everyone knew as the tall girl.

she would always be known, and she hated it.
